On the 24th-25th March (5pm-5pm), Selwyn College Boat Club is launching a 24-Hour ‘Ergathon’ event to raise money for new equipment. SCBC members will row with at least one, and up to four, ergs in constant use for a 24-hour period. We aim to accumulate at least 300km in distance on the rowing machine. We will livestream our progress and donations are welcome via the College website. SCBC is the biggest student society at Selwyn, and continues to grow each year, with recent years seeing particularly strong uptake. However, with this growth comes a greater stretch on limited resources, making alumni support fundamental to our athletes’ development. To find more information and links to donate, see our website: https://lnkd.in/ePBar8EB
About us
Selwyn College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The college was founded by the Selwyn Memorial Committee in memory of George Augustus Selwyn (1809–1878), the first Bishop of New Zealand (1841–1868), and subsequently Bishop of Lichfield (1868–1878). It consists of three main courts built of brick and stone (Old Court, Cripps Court and Ann's Court) with some ancillary buildings, including houses serving as student hostels on Grange Road, West Road and Sidgwick Avenue. It received its Royal Charter in 1882 from Queen Victoria.

It was an honour to be invited as a panelist for the Women in STEMM celebration organised by the High Commission of India in London, in collaboration with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office - Research, Science and Innovation, to mark #InternationalWomensDay2025. Being recognised by your own country #India for your work and passion is truly humbling. My research focuses on creating sustainable, inclusive, and equitable built environments for those who need the most, and gender equality remains central to this vision. Grateful to share this platform with such incredible trailblazers, shaping the future through innovation and leadership! #WomenInSTEMM #IWD2025 #GenderEquality #Sustainability #InclusiveLeadership Cambridge Architecture University of Cambridge Selwyn College, University of Cambridge The official page for the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge

"When this role at Selwyn was advertised, it immediately clicked with me. I could use my public health nursing skills and tap into my knowledge of physical healthcare and mental health support. Now it feels like my dream job!" Lucy Turnell is Selwyn's first full-time, year-round college nurse, a provision only made possible by generous support from Fellow Benefactors Christina and Peter Dawson. We spoke to her about her role and how the welfare team works at Selwyn. Read our full interview below:

The college hosted a reception for its major supporters in the grand setting of The Fishmongers' Company Hall in London. Alongside the master Roger Mosey was master-elect Suzanne Raine, and we were thrilled to be joined by so many alumni and friends. Alongside the offer letters that we sent out to our prospective new undergraduate students at the end of January, selected offerholders also received invitations to Selwyn’s bridging course. This programme is not a replacement for the full induction that all incoming students receive at the start of October, but provides additional and more tailored support to students who meet certain criteria. Our first bridging course cohort of 15 students (pictured with course director Dr Tom Smith at their undergraduate matriculation dinner in October) are now halfway through their first year at Selwyn. You can read more about their experiences, and the programme itself, on our website: https://lnkd.in/e5igC_iG We look forward to welcoming our incoming cohort of bridging course participants for 2025.

Did the early days of the Internet sow the seeds for the toxicity of the contemporary digital world? Alumna Professor Claire Warwick, author of “Digital Humanities and the Cyberspace Decade: A World Elsewhere” discusses these issues with Selwyn’s Dr Leonardo Impett at our latest auditorium event. Watch the full recording on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/egRfYA8J
It was such a pleasure to talk about my book at Selwyn College, University of Cambridge yesterday. In case you couldn't make it, the recording is on YouTube at https://lnkd.in/gRzbcpCC Thank you, especially to Leonardo Impett for being such a great interlocutor, and to everyone who organised such a successful event. It was also lovely to see so many people I know in the audience, including Laura Dietz and Andrew Jackson. Thanks to everyone who was there, whether in person or online, for helping make it such a great evening.

Congratulations to Dr Layla Ettinghausen, who graduated from Cambridge last summer! 🎓 Layla spent six years studying Medicine at Selwyn College, University of Cambridge before joining the School of Clinical Medicine. "My dissertation explored a unique type of immune cell that helps fight infections but also helps the placenta develop. It was fascinating to dive deep into such a specific topic, and I was so grateful for my supervisor’s support throughout!" Beyond her studies, rowing was a huge part of Layla's Cambridge experience 🚣♀️ "I wasn’t considered sporty at school, but I gave rowing a go in Freshers’ Week and ended up becoming Women’s Captain for Selwyn College Boat Club! Some of my best Cambridge memories were made on the river." So what's Layla doing now? 🪜 "I'm now working as a Foundation Year 1 doctor, putting everything I've learned into practice and contributing to patient care. I'm particularly passionate about women's health and hope to build a career in this field. I’m also a trustee for a charity that supports the mental health of healthcare professionals – an issue I care deeply about." Wishing you all the best for the future, Layla! ✨ 📷 Layla Ettinghausen #CambridgeUniversity #CambridgeAlumni
