Art and ideas for a changing world.

About us

Championing the possibilities of new ideas in contemporary art since opening in 1970, Serpentine has presented pioneering exhibitions for almost half a century, showing a wide range of work from emerging practitioners to the most internationally recognised artists of our time, providing a place for them to experiment and an open platform for them to be seen and heard. Across two sites in Kensington Gardens, Serpentine South and Serpentine North present a year-round, open programme of exhibitions, including education, live events and technological innovation in the park and beyond. Proud to maintain free access for all visitors, thanks to its unique location, the galleries also reach an exceptionally broad audience and connect with the local community.

We welcome you to visit the 23rd Serpentine Pavilion: 'Archipelagic Void'! Tracing the history of past Serpentine Pavilions, architect Minsuk Cho (Mass Studies) observed that they often emerge as a singular structure situated at the centre of the Serpentine South lawn. So when he designed the one for this year, he approached the centre as an open space surrounded by five ‘islands’, each of which are unique in size, height and form. This layout references traditional Korean houses that feature a 'madang', a central, open courtyard that connects to various residential quarters, accommodating individual everyday activities and larger collective rituals throughout the changing seasons. We look forward to your visit! 🎟️ Free admission 📍 Serpentine South 📆 7 Jun - 27 Oct 2024 Check our website for opening hours: https://lnkd.in/e4bAFrCm #SerpentinePavilion #SerpentinePavilion2024 - Photos: Iwan Baan Special thanks to our headline partner Goldman Sachs for their tenth consecutive year of support.

Yayoi Kusama's 'Pumpkin' is coming to the park this summer! "I am sending to London with love my giant pumpkin," says the artist. "Since my childhood pumpkins have been a great comfort to me, they are such tender things to touch, so appealing in colour and form. They are humble and amusing at the same time and speak to me of the joy of living." This will be Kusama's tallest bronze pumpkin sculpture to date. Find it by the Round Pond in Kensington Gardens from 9 July to 3 November. - 'Yayoi Kusama: Pumpkin' made possible by Victoria Miro Gallery #yayoikusama #kusamapumpkin Images: [1] Digital rendering of Yayoi Kusama's 'Pumpkin', 2024 © YAYOI KUSAMA. Judy Chicago invites you to 'Revelations' at Serpentine. https://lnkd.in/eK98ApDt Throughout her six-decade career, artist Judy Chicago has contested the absence and erasure of women in the Western cultural canon, developing a distinctive visual language that gives visibility to their experiences. 'Revelations' will be her largest solo presentation in a London institution. The exhibition takes its name from an unpublished illuminated manuscript Chicago penned in the early 1970s whilst creating 'The Dinner Party' (1974–79) – a monumental installation that symbolises the achievements of 1038 women, now permanently housed at the Brooklyn Museum, New York. To coincide with the exhibition, the manuscript will be published for the first time by Serpentine and Thames & Hudson. It offers a radical retelling of history and a vision of a just and equitable world.
