Are you sitting waiting for the Budget? There's some key changes coming in the Autumn proposals, and we, like a lot of other SMEs, are keen to see how they play out. In his speech on Monday afternoon, Starmer outlined big investments coming for public services, and insisted "fixing the foundations" of the country is the priority. The 2024 Budget will also be the first to be delivered by a woman. Tuesday afternoon saw the announcement that minimum wage will rise in April 2025, with hourly rates for over-21s set to go up to £12.21 an hour.

Some of our team recently visited The Ivy Asia in Leeds 🍜 On top of their breathtaking decor, delicious food and drinks and impeccable vibes, we have to talk about one thing - the service. We were looked after from the moment we stepped through the door; by the hostesses welcoming us in, by the wait staff and most importantly, by Henry and Larry, who were tasked with taking care of us, and did their job brilliantly, including surprising us with a huge dessert platter to apologise for a kitchen error that led to one of our main courses being delayed! If you're looking for an excellent dining experience in Leeds, don't miss this one!

It's played a crucial role in supporting but its effectiveness is increasingly questioned. According to a report released in July 2024 reveals a staggering £4.1 billion loss in tax revenues since 2020, mostly due to error and fraud. This has led to HMRC needing to intensify efforts to combat the problem, which has had unintended consequences, including discouraging many businesses which would have utilised the scheme. We get a lot of brilliant feedback from the candidates we represent - this is the standard we work to, day in, day out. It speaks to how easy our team are to engage with, and how working with us can really help build your confidence. If you need a recruiter to work alongside and find you the right next step, we're here for you. The government set out their 10-year industrial strategy recently 🏭 Labour is set to put jobs at the forefront, focusing on sectors with the highest growth potential. This includes sectors such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and digital technologies. This strategy aims to tackle barriers to investment - things like skills shortages, recruitment and infrastructure struggles. This strategy is ambitious but will prioritise factors that are important to the country, pushing forward towards economic resilience, and hopefully providing support for city regions and strategic industrial sites. Businesses are encouraged to contribute throughout the consultation process, which is open for the next month, closing on November 24th. Read more in the article in the comments 👇

Sexual harassment legislation is changing this month. Do you know what the changes involve? New legislation coming in October 2024 will require UK employers to take "reasonable steps" to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. Employers must act to prevent harassment, including from external individuals like clients. To prepare for this, organisations should be focusing on leadership, policies, training, reporting systems, and culture shifts. Read more about it in the CIPD article in the comments below.
