The global economy is set to slow over the next few quarters, but stark differences will persist between regions. Robust growth in the United States should ease as the jobs market comes off the boil. Meanwhile, industrial challenges and political uncertainty are impacting the fragility of the euro area economy, resulting in economies counting on a boost from falling inflation and synchronised rate cuts. Elsewhere, it remains to be seen whether China's latest stimulus package can reignite domestic demand. What does this mean for investors and how does it impact our asset allocation? Throughout the summer, global financial markets demonstrated extreme volatility, which was largely caused by the state of the US labour market. Since the beginning of the year, the US unemployment rate has been trending higher, increasing to 4.1%. Historically, such an increase has coincided with a recession in the US. The markets were thus worried that the higher unemployment rate was signalling a recession was imminent, which would result in lower corporate profits. This helps explain the global equities market sell-off that occurred in early August and, to a lesser extent, again in early September, following the releases of US Employment reports. But as the saying goes, this time may be different. Would like to know more? Discover the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gtZ7DXbi

Global stock markets had a volatile summer, beginning with an equity market sell-off late July driven partly by US recession fears. Later on, more encouraging data allowed the markets to bounce back. While downside risks exist, the US is likely to experience only a gradual slowdown, still buoyed by solid corporate and household balance sheets. In Europe, growth should remain modest but positive. Against this backdrop, the major central banks are likely to step up the pace of monetary policy loosening, as inflation is getting closer to the 2% target. What does this volatile environment mean for investors and and how does it impact our asset allocation? Find out more in our September Monthly House Views: https://lnkd.in/eUxH6taQ
