We won the Lottery!! We are so thrilled to announce that we've secured three year funding from The #NationalLottery Community Fund! The National Lottery Community Fund distributes over £600m a year raised by players of The National Lottery, to fund projects across the UK that help communities to thrive. Our founder Lorna Montgomery says ‘This a game changer and significant step forward for Share and Repair. This will make repairing and sharing more accessible to more people who are seeking ways to make a difference to the environment. At the same time we can continue to build our volunteer community without whom we could not exist!’ We'd like to say thank you to everyone who has supported and volunteered with us throughout the years, we are so glad to be bringing you along with us for the next stage of our work. Last November we were awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, which is the highest Award given to local voluntary groups in the UK and is awarded for life. We are so honoured to have received this award, and incredibly proud of our volunteers for their achievement! In very exciting news, we recently had an invitation through the letterbox to attend the King's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, in recognition of receiving this award! Unfortunately we only had two tickets and couldn’t bring all of our volunteers to celebrate with us. John was the lucky volunteer whose name was picked out of a hat, and accompanied our Founder Lorna to the Party. Lorna said “It was a magical day, such an honour for Share and Repair to be invited to and represented at this very prestigious event. Amongst the 7000 strong attendees to this truly beautiful oasis, we met a cross section of High Court Judge, retired Coroner of unusual/suspicious deaths, other Chairs of Community Organisations, Private Secretary to the King and assorted clergy! Fascinating!” And they even managed to get a glimpse of the King! Thank you to every single person who volunteers with us, we wouldn't have achieved this without you and only wish we could have brought you all along.

Laura Whateley wrote a brilliant article for The Guardian about the growth of Libraries of Things across the country, and not just for household items but for art, toys and clothes too. It's incredibly exciting to read about the increasing opportunities available for people to share and rent rather than buying, and to read about Library of Things, The Edinburgh Tool Library (Charity Reg - SC045162) and Benthyg Cymru in the newspaper! In November we were awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Service, and were absolutely thrilled and so proud of every single one of our volunteers. To say well done to them and celebrate their achievement, we threw a big party for our volunteers! The King's Award for Voluntary Service is the highest Award given to local voluntary groups in the UK and is awarded for life, we are so proud that our incredible volunteers are getting the recognition they deserve! The night included speeches by our Founder Lorna, the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, and the Deputy Lieutenant. We also celebrated the commitment all of our longest-serving volunteers have given to Share and Repair, who have been with us since we started. In his speech the Deputy Lieutenant said 'One of the things that you’re unique for is your ability to teach people how to repair things… You don’t get the King’s Award for being good at what you do, you get it for being exceptional, be very proud of what you’ve achieved.’ Thank you to every single person who volunteers with us, we wouldn't have achieved this without you, and we hope you enjoyed the party! We also wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to making the evening special for our volunteers, to our sponsors who helped make the evening and everything we do possible, and our staff for organising a brilliant night! We have some amazing organisations to thank, without their generosity we would not have been able to throw such a fantastic party. Firstly thank you to DoubleTree by Hilton Bath and Apex Hotels who donated all the cutlery, crockery, linen, glasses - the list goes on and on! Thank you to Bath Community Kitchen for the absolutely delicious food, and the Flower Shop at Bath College for our beautiful table centrepieces. All our volunteers were able to take home a goody bag at the end of the evening and included beautiful seeds donated by Prior Park Garden Centre. The lions share of the beer for the evening was donated by Lost and Grounded Brewers Ltd - thank you so much! We had some extra treats for some lucky volunteers in the form of our raffle prizes. Good Day Cafe donated 14 boxes of delicious chocolate brownies - one for a lucky winner on each table! DoubleTree by Hilton donated a 2 night stay, Hybrid Health Physiotherapy a massage voucher, and Electric Bear Brewing Co. donated a gift pack of beer. Lastly thanks to our generous sponsors Buro Happold, Bath Spa University, University of Bath, Mitchell & Dickinson, BWCE.
