The International Monetary Fund and The World Bank Group 2024 Annual Meetings kick off this week in Washington, D.C. For 80 years, these institutions have demonstrated that they are incompatible with the need for a democratic, accountable, and equitable global governance architecture. Recognising this challenge, Arimbi Wahono will be representing Shared Planet and the Women's Environment & Development Organization as a panellist at the following Annual Meetings Civil Society Policy Forum session: 💡 Financing Care Economies through Progressive Taxation: The Role of IMF-Driven Austerity. 🗓️ Wed, 23 October 14:00-15:30 Eastern Time (19:00-20.30 BST/GMT+1) 📍 IMF HQ2-03B-768B Lecture Room or streamed via https://lnkd.in/enEFiycS Arimbi Wahono will set the stage by exploring the need for a feminist and decolonial approach to tax policy, how the IMF has been instrumental in perpetuating tax injustice across the Global South, and what a feminist and decolonial tax regime looks like. She will be joined by fellow civil society panellists and an IMF respondent. Learn more soon from the tax advocacy brief that Shared Planet will publish in November 2024 alongside the Women's Environment & Development Organization’s, Financial Transparency Coalition, and Center for Economic and Social Rights.

About us
Shared Planet is a global stakeholder engagement consultancy based in London and operating globally. We work with civil society organisations, IGOs, academic institutions and companies on projects that focus on mapping stakeholder eco-systems, building stakeholder partnerships and creating multi-stakeholder dialogue, platforms, and alignment on complex policy issues. We offer a wide range of services that ultimately seek to help organisations understand their issue and stakeholder landscape, build a strong reputation with stakeholders through engagement and thought leadership, and build stakeholder platforms for dialogue. All of our work touches on social and environmental policy - often in areas where stakeholder dialogue is necessary to unlock solutions. Some of the topics we have worked on include: preventing deforestation, reducing plastics in the ocean, improving commodity supply chains, protecting whales and dolphins, and attracting financing the the circular economy and environmentally-necessary businesses.

Pleased to announce WWF is publishing a Global Roadmap for a Nature-Positive Economy. It proposes an plan of action on building an economy that operates within the limits of what our planet can support & no longer incentivises the overexploitation of nature. We are looking forward to presenting the Roadmap next week at #COP16 in Cali.

Shared Planet has proudly worked with WWF-UK over the past year as part of their research and advocacy efforts to build a global nature-positive economy. The culmination of this work, launching today, is the Global Roadmap for a Nature-Positive Economy: an agenda for action to develop an economy that operates within planetary boundaries and no longer incentivises the overexploitation of nature. A core message of the Roadmap is that, to reverse biodiversity loss, we don't just need investments in nature – we need to transform the systemic conditions that determine those investments. This includes developing financial regulation to prevent private investment in nature-degrading activities and de-emphasising the role of GDP as a decision-making metric, among reforms in other areas including development finance, sectoral pathways, trade rules, and governance of the global commons. To learn more, attend the launch webinar today at 12:00-13:00 BST/GMT+1, where WWF-UK's team of economists, Karen Ellis and Vassilis Gkoumas, will be presenting the Roadmap alongside Shared Planet's Arimbi Wahono. Tomorrow is #InternationalDayforPeopleofAfricanDescent. Here at Shared Planet, we work alongside incredible African organisations and individuals who have achieved, and continue to achieve, outstanding accomplishments, inspiring us each and every day. This day also serves as a crucial opportunity to raise awareness of the ongoing struggles faced by those of African descent worldwide. To acknowledge this, and to ensure we provide a welcoming work environment for all of our current and future employees at Shared Planet, we have recently signed the Halo Code. By joining The Halo Collective, we have pledged to champion the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles and identify as a community where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee’s ability to succeed. Being part of a diverse team that works to fight social injustices, we are aware of and strongly condemn the racial discrimination that many Black employees face when entering the workplace. There is absolutely no tolerance for any form of racism at our workplace, and by joining this initiative we hope to support the wider movement to eliminate hair discrimination in the UK. #equality #diversity #inclusion https://lnkd.in/dZ5cHV5

🌍 August 19 is World Humanitarian Day 🌍 Today, we honour the courage, resilience, and dedication of all humanitarian workers across the world who work tirelessly to provide lifesaving support to communities during times of crisis. The theme of this year’s World Humanitarian Day “Real Life Heroes” celebrates individuals who put their lives on the line to help others, often in challenging environments. The ongoing conflicts around the world serve as stark reminders of the need for sustained humanitarian efforts and the need to mobilise collectively towards lasting peace and stability. At Shared Planet, this day resonates deeply with us because our work is driven by a commitment to doing work that matters and contributing to a more fair and just society. This World Humanitarian Day, the Shared Planet team is proud to play a small role in supporting initiatives that address the specific needs of those affected by conflict such as our work in 2024 with the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network), Oxfam, Acción contra el Hambre, Women's Environment & Development Organization and others. We are doing so much work in this important space that we are planning to launch a specific practice dedicated to humanitarian issues later in 2024! We are particularly focused on how humanitarian-related issues impact women, and taking a feminist lens to this work. Our recent research into the disproportionate economic impact of the conflict of women and girls in Sudan highlighted the multifaceted challenges faced by vulnerable communities in times of crisis. By highlighting these intersectional issues and advocating for gender-responsive policies, we contribute to the broader humanitarian effort to ensure that every voice is heard, and that support is equitable and effective. Today, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to support these efforts and advocate for justice worldwide. #WorldHumanitarianDay #RealLifeHeroes #ActForHumanity #HumanitarianAid

City Harvest London releases “Nourish to Flourish: How Food Boosts Mental, Physical and Community Health,” the second edition of its People Value Report. And according to the World Health Organisation, 11.3% of children and youth in the UK struggle with obesity, compared to 9.3% in the European Union and 11.9% in China. We are so excited to share our latest report that we’ve produced together with FIPRA Public Affairs for Transport & Environment (T&E), WWF European Policy Office, BirdLife International, Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe and European Environmental Bureau. In this super-election year, more people than ever will be heading to the polls, with 400 million people voting in the European Parliament elections alone. This report summarises what the #EU has done for the #environment and its #citizens in recent years. Most importantly, the report emphasises what the EU can still do—and how EU citizens can influence EU environmental policy and action by going out to #vote in June. 🌍 🗳️ #citizencentric #planet #sharedplanet #elections https://lnkd.in/eYG76gR8
