In the UK, Black History Month is celebrated in October. As we close out October, SheCanEngineer want to carry on the conversations around the theme 'Reclaiming Narratives' - and what better way to do that than through our podcast! Listen to the stories from two of our volunteers, talking about their backgrounds from Africa and the Caribbean, and living in the UK. It's an opportunity to learn, appreciate and understand each other, and open up those conversations! You can listen wherever you get your podcasts from - link in the comments! A huge thank you to everyone who joined our recent webinar in collaboration with Engineering Futures as part of their Sustainability Week! Our panellists Laurie Cusick, Natalie Collcutt, and Radhika Sharma led us through an interesting and inspiring discussion on the intersection of ED&I and sustainable engineering, sharing their personal experiences and insights. The level of engagement and the range of comments really demonstrated how important these conversations are for the future of our industry. A special shout-out to our moderator, Poppy Harrison, for guiding the conversation with such energy and expertise! Missed the live event? Don’t worry—Engineering Futures have released the full webinar recording here: https://lnkd.in/eS2TV8uB We’re so proud to be driving these essential discussions around diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability. Let's keep the momentum going and continue shaping an engineering industry that values diverse perspectives and works toward a more sustainable future. #SustainabilityInEngineering #DiversityInSTEM #EquityAndInclusion #FutureOfEngineering #SheCanEngineer #SustainableInnovation #EngineeringFutures

Earlier this month SheCanEngineer attended the Forces in STEM event at the The Royal Air Force Museum at RAF Cosford! We hosted a hands-on workshop on chemical engineering, engaging over 1,500 enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 pupils from local primary schools. Each group explored the pH of everyday liquids, making predictions, testing, and experimenting. The results sparked exciting conversations about the real-world applications of engineering and how it shapes the world around us! We're proud to inspire the next generation of engineers. #SheCanEngineer #STEMeducation #DiversityInEngineering #NextGenEngineers Diana Kenny Kierra Grant Lucy Down

Today is Dyslexia in Engineering Day. We know that some of our committee members, volunteers and supporters are dyslexic, and we are proud to join Stephen Gill in supporting neuroinclusion in the Engineering industry! During our INWED celebration this year, Jennifer MacDonald and Laura Kershaw both spoke candidly and passionately about their dyslexia, finding ways to change and adapt how they work, and reframing their dyslexia as their superpower. They highlighted how finding neuroinclusive employers that could provide support would further enhance what they could do, and the power of opening up conversations around this has on everyone. So let's open up those conversations on Dyslexia in Engineering Day!
I’m proud to be supporting Dyslexia in Engineering Day and to raise awareness about the importance of neuroinclusion in our industry. As engineers, we are constantly solving complex problems, and thinking differently is one of our greatest strengths. Neurodiverse individuals, including those with dyslexia, often approach challenges with fresh perspectives, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to see the bigger picture—qualities that are invaluable in engineering. By promoting neuroinclusion, we embrace the diversity of thought that drives innovation and progress in our field. It’s time we recognize that these different ways of thinking are assets, not obstacles. When we create environments that allow everyone to contribute their strengths, we open the door to more innovative solutions and stronger teams. Join me in supporting this important cause! Let’s continue the conversation and take action to make neuroinclusion a priority in engineering.
