Sheffield City Council Leader Cllr Tom Hunt has joined the International Mayors Council on Homelessness. The international council, created in 2023, is a partnership between UN Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and DePaul University’s Ruff Institute of Global Homelessness in Chicago. Sheffield was invited to join the global council through the city’s involvement in the Homewards initiative, the five-year programme founded by Prince William through his Royal Foundation to demonstrate that together it is possible to end homelessness. The transformation of the Sheffield Castle site is continuing as the new public park starts to take shape. When complete in 2026, the park will have ruins of the 12th century castle on permanent display, as well as grey to green style planting, an opened up River Sheaf, and a 500+ capacity events space. The regeneration of Castlegate is part of our commitment to transform Sheffield city centre into a cleaner, greener, more vibrant place to be. Along with developments at Heart of the City, Fargate, and West Bar, we’re creating a city centre fit for the future. Find out more about the project here:
