Bringing arts, culture, children and young people together

Sheffield’s Creative Industries Showcase – Get Involved! The creative industries in Sheffield are vibrant and full of opportunity, yet many young people don’t see themselves as part of this world. For Discover! Creative Careers Week 2024, we’re bringing together professionals from various creative sectors—both the well-known ones like theatres and galleries, and others like video game design, advertising, festivals, music production, graphic design, architecture, and more. Our goal is to break down stereotypes and misconceptions about who can thrive in creative careers. Young people are eager to meet and hear from individuals who grew up in their communities and have gone on to build successful creative careers. And That’s Where You Come In! We need you! No prior experience working with young people is necessary—if creativity is a key part of your job, we want to hear from you. We’re looking for professionals from as many different creative roles and sectors as possible, whether you work for a company, as a freelancer, or as a sole trader. What’s the Event Format? The event will feature speed networking sessions. No need to give formal presentations to large groups of teenagers (unless you want to!). We’ll guide you and the young people through quick, meaningful conversations. They might ask about your job, how you got started, advice you’d give to your younger self, and tips for their future. Where and When? Location: Sheffield Futures, Star House, Division Street, S1 Date: Friday, 22 November 2024 Times: Pre-booked School Groups: 13:00 PM and 14:00 PM Drop-in for young people (with or without an adult): 15:30 PM – 17:30 PM You can join for one or more of these sessions. We understand your time is valuable, so there’s flexibility in how much you participate. If you’re part of an organisation, feel free to share the sessions among colleagues. How to Get Involved If you’d like to participate in the Sheffield Creative Industries Showcase, please complete the form on our website. We’d love to have you on board! Any questions please get in touch with Laura at Laura@createsheffield.co.uk

Sunday was Run day for our fundraising champions like Nathan. And boy did they do a great job! 🏃 We loved spotting SF vests amongst the thousands of runners all taking part in one of our favourite events of the year. The sun shone brightly (yes, it was cold ❄️, but we're focusing on the positives) and the crowd brought the energy 💯 18 individuals laced up their trainers and tackled the Sheffield hills to raise money for local young people. Help them reach their final targets? 🏃♀️ https://lnkd.in/e_3xxg6y #Fundraising #Sheffield10k #RunForAll

Today, I completed the #sheffield10k in support of Sheffield Futures, a charity dedicated to providing vital support to the youth of #Sheffield. Being involved with this incredible charity is a real honor. The highlight from today was seeing my family cheering me on at the finish line, with my eldest giving me a triumphant fist pump Massive thanks to everyone who has already sponsored me. If you haven't had the chance yet but would like to contribute and support this fantastic charity, there is still time to do so using the link below. Your generosity will make a real difference! https://lnkd.in/eTdsCmaq

As an independent charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals and companies like Killingley to provide essential support for young people in Sheffield. £10,000 makes a huge difference. This amount of donation can help by: ➡ supporting an extra 25 young people dealing with trauma through 1:1 counselling ➡ funding special activites and group outings for young people experiencing loneliness and social anxiety ➡ covering transport costs for NEET young people to access job interviews and training 💙 Sheffield Futures exists to provide a safe, supportive environment for young people living in Sheffield by providing them with the tools and opportunities they need to live healthy, happy lives. Can you help us achieve our mission? https://lnkd.in/e_93xnhg #CharitableGiving #SupportingYoungPeople

🍔 Care Experienced Summer BBQ 🔥 Project coaches Gemma and Chelsea had a blast at yesterday's Summer BBQ, hosted by the wonderful Sheffield Leaving Care Service 😍 Amidst the games, food, and raffles, this was a great way to catch up with young people who've been supported by our Ambition project 👷♀️ 📝 Whether it's training, employment, or education, our Ambition project helps young people find the path that's right for them. From interview preparation to CV writing workshops, our project coaches provide the support and skills that young people need to progress on their journey. A lovely bonus to the day was having two care experienced young people join us later on for our Youth Run Club! Though by their own admission, the burgers weren't great pre-run fuel... #CareExperience #CareLeavers #CommunityEvents

🌸 Creativity shared amongst colleagues 🌸 SF Mental Health Hub delivered a fantastic taster session to colleagues over lunch today, showcasing the resources and activities they've developed for group delivery out in community venues and schools. Over three sessions, the MHH team work with groups of young people to: 🙆♀️ Increase awareness and psychoeducation around mental health 🧘♂️ Provide coping strategies for managing mental wellbeing  👬 Empower young people to access community support Sessions are tailored to meet each group's needs, recognising that one size doesn't fit all. By piloting the sessions with Grow, we've been able to test and tweak the activities, taking on board feedback from young people and other professionals. Interested in collaborating with the MHH? If you want to find out about young people's experiences of mental health, you need to ask them. That's what BBC Look North did when they came to visit us recently. Hannah Gray sat down with a group of young people at Star House to ask them about their experiences of mental health waiting lists, and what sort of support they'd like to have available to them. With a new Government committing to increasing the number of mental health workers across the country, we hope to see services like Door43 and the Mental Health Hub sustainably funded so that we can continue providing early-intervention support to those who need it. Broadcast on 14th August at 1.30pm and 6.30pm. Available to watch on iPlayer for the next 24 hours: https://lnkd.in/ecMuGCGx #YouthVoice #MentalHealth #Media #BBC
