Huge congratulations to our Artistic Director Joe Murphy and Chief Executive Julia Barry on their inclusion in The Stage 100 list of the most influential people in the theatre industry. Llongyfarchiadau i’n Cyfarwyddwr Artistig Joe Murphy a’n Prif Weithredwr Julia Barry am gael eu cynnwys yn rhestr The Stage 100 o’r bobl fwyaf dylanwadol yn y diwydiant theatr. Dywedodd The Stage / said  ‘Buoyed by a slam-dunk 50th year in 2023, the Sherman continued to impress in 2024, offering five original plays plus a Welsh-language Iphigenia in Splott. Its commitment to staging fearless new writing was best demonstrated by Odyssey ’84, a Homeric exploration of the miners’ strike, and The Women of Llanrumney, a blistering interrogation of Wales’ role in slavery, which was born from the Sherman’s Unheard Voices programme for under-represented playwrights and earned Azuka Oforka a gong at The Stage Debut Awards. We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted in the Theatre of the Year category at the Stage Awards for a second consecutive year. This is a huge achievement for the Sherman team, our artists and our audiences - thank you everyone. It’s the icing on the cake of another great year at the Sherman. Our Literary Department offers Welsh and Wales based writers development opportunities for different stages of their writing journey, including unsolicited script submissions and Pit Stop sessions. We're pleased that following a successful first year, EXPLORE and EXPAND are returning in September. Applications for both EXPLORE (for those looking to start their journey as a script writer) and EXPAND (for those with some playwriting experience) are now open. EXPLORE will run the first Wednesday of each month, starting in September, between 6pm and 7.30pm, ran hybrid both in person and on Zoom. Learn the nuts and bolts of playwriting.
