There’s a lot that can be done to promote an atmosphere of openness and collaboration within a luxury hotel or retail project team. When people feel safe, supported and genuinely part of something bigger, they’re much more likely to step up when things get tough. It's the ‘let’s solve it together’ culture that we encourage everyone at Sibley Grove to embrace – we want our team to thrive on the challenges that a project can throw up and use them as a way of deepening creative problem solving and collaboration. This week, Jeremy looks at how projects teams react to inevitable challenges and how creating a safe and collaborative environment is key to solving them. https://lnkd.in/e64RnNYa

About us
Sibley Grove is an interior design & architects studio based in Devon UK. The studio was founded in 2010 by husband-and-wife team Kate Sibley (Creative Director) and Jeremy Grove (Head of Interior Design). The studio’s ethos draws inspiration from the natural world where waste is a resource with its own inherent value as a system of natural circular regeneration. As designers and architects, Sibley Grove employs a systems-thinking approach, drawing on both creative and technical disciplines to design projects that have both an aesthetic beauty and practical use. Sibley Grove’s work can be found across the UK and overseas and includes luxury hotels, hospitality and retail spaces. They are best-known for delivering ambitious, bespoke luxury hotel and retail projects for discerning clients and for their award-winning ‘Design for Disassembly’ process. By embracing these principles, Sibley Grove is actively contributing to reshaping the world of interior design and architecture.

Sustainability is a three dimensional issue... Good design considers resource and how we live within planetary boundaries, whilst creating comfortable and aesthetically beautiful spaces. The goal should be to maximise functionality and beauty while minimising waste, both in terms of energy and materials. This week we look at how by making the simple perspective shift from 2D to 3D, as designers, we can consider how space interacts with it's environment - not just how it looks or feels, but how it functions...

Once synonymous with wealth and exclusivity, 'luxury' has been commodified and diluted into everyday consumerism. From supermarket shelves offering ‘luxury’ mince pies to online ads promoting ‘luxury’ hand soap, the term has become a catch-all for products that may have little to do with genuine quality, craftsmanship or distinction. This week we share our thoughts on redefining what 'luxury' means in a contemporary context, and it might not be what you expect... #designthinking #luxuryredefined

We recently updated Drayton Court Hotel in Ealing, developing a scheme that could be implemented over a 10-week construction period, limiting the closure of the business. In that short timeframe, we refreshed 27 rooms and five suites, bringing the decor back into line with the building's rich Victorian history and melding this with contemporary features that travellers expect to see in a hotel of this calibre. It might be surprising, but this kind of project aligns perfectly with our sustainable design ethos, compelling us to think carefully about what we can reuse, refurbish and refresh from the existing design. You can read more about the project in this week's journal article below... #designthinking #interiordesign #sustainabledesign

Back in 2019, we started the interior design work for Al Khozama Hotel & Residences KAUST hotel in Saudi Arabia. It presented some interesting design challenges, not least the sheer scale of the project. 5 years on and with the second phase completed, Al Khozama recently won the Haute Grandeur Global Award for Best Conference Venue Hotel in the Middle East 2024, and Best Hotel Residences in Saudi Arabia 2024. This week, Kate Sibley reflects on the project and how good design can create inviting, valuable and award-winning hotel spaces.

What do the 'waste-of-money' box, a cleaning ring and a carpet tile chair have in common? When Shaun East, Kate Sibley and Jeremy Grove met at #Goldsmiths in the noughties, a shared concern for the environmental impact of consumerism sparked a desire to explore sustainable design. Above are just some of the projects that made it from "design meetings" in the Hob Goblin pub, into reality. This week, Shaun shares the thinking behind the projects and how Sibley Grove's ethos continues to embody a shared passion for sustainable design.

Hotel brands and hotel developers can have conflicting desires... and as interior designers, it's our job to make sure we satisfy both. This can feel like being the 'design piggy in the middle', but understanding and bringing together the needs of both parties can lead to some exciting and creative outcomes. #luxuryhotel #hoteldesign #designthinking

The unexpected link between Wimbledon, VAR and luxury design. When Wimbledon announced that after 147 years, line judges would be replaces by VAR, it got us thinking about how AI is becoming more prevalent in not just sport, but the world of design. And as designers, how and when we work with it. AI offers precision and speed - but is that what the design process is about? #designthinking #AI #AIdesign

As a studio, we steer away from following ‘trends’, preferring to take guidance and inspiration from a building’s architecture and cultural setting, both past and present. That said, there are some current trends in sustainable design that will hopefully make the much needed transition to ‘design norms’. This week we look at 6 design trends that are hopefully here to stay... #sustainabledesign #designtrends #interiordesign

Are you a Project Manager or QS who wants to know more about sourcing sustainable materials? Then this post is for you! Over the years, we’ve built a wealth of knowledge when it comes to sourcing sustainable materials for a project. And that’s knowledge we do our best to share when it comes to collaborating in project teams. This week’s journal piece looks at some of the key checks that QS and Project Managers could consider to ensure their material supply chains are sustainable and free from forced labour. #sustainablesourcing #projectmanagement #QS
