  • It's Get Online Week and we're here to help you make the most of your time online. In our newsletter this month, we highlighted the built-in accessibility features on both iPhone and Android devices, specifically designed to support blind and visually impaired users. These powerful tools help make smartphones easier to use, ensuring everyone can stay connected and independent. On iPhone, the VoiceOver screen reader provides spoken descriptions of what’s on your screen, while Magnifier turns your phone into a digital magnifying glass. You can also adjust text size, enable Speak Screen, and use Siri for voice commands. For Android users, TalkBack offers a similar screen-reading experience, guiding you through the phone with voice feedback. Android also includes features like Magnification, high contrast text, and Google Assistant for hands-free navigation. These features are constantly improving, making mobile technology more inclusive for everyone. If you haven’t explored them yet, now’s the perfect time! If you need help either to get online or make your phone, tablet, laptop or other tech work for you, get in touch with us. We have a dedicated tech team ready to help you. Call us on 01903 235 782 or drop us a message. #GetOnlineWeek

  • Today, on World Mental Health Day, we want to remind everyone that your mental health matters. Adjusting to changes in vision can bring unique emotional challenges, but you don’t have to face them alone. SSW offers specialist counselling services to support you through every stage of your sight loss journey. Our trained counsellor understands the complexities of visual impairment and is here to listen, support, and guide you in a safe, confidential space. If you or someone you know could benefit from talking to someone, get in touch. Together, we can break the stigma around mental health and create a world where everyone feels supported.
