Last month, our Silverback Films Pride Committee hosted the first industry LGBTQ+ club night in Bristol. Over 150 people from across the industry come together to celebrate, raising money for Pride without Borders - a charity supporting queer refugees in Bristol. The night included an array of on-stage performances and DJ sets, as well as queer artists and creatives from Bristol and Cardiff promoting their work.   Ellie Jo Hilton, on behalf of our Pride Committee shared: “The whole vibe of the night was filled with love and joy, and miraculously very little networking to be heard amongst the crowd! Most importantly, the main reason for throwing the event in the first place was to raise some money for Bristol Refugee Rights, Pride without Borders. After the hostility seen around the UK over the summer, all we really wanted to do this year was to support those in need in our community, and at the same time bring people together to dance, be merry and celebrate their pride." Today we hosted a showcase for women, transgender, and non-binary freelance camera operators working within the natural history film & TV industry. It was an afternoon celebrating diverse filmmaking talent, and opportunity for our Senior Producers, Producers, and wider productions team to connect with those underrepresented behind the lens.    We recognise there’s a long way to go in making our industry more inclusive – and embracing diversity not only creates opportunities for underrepresented voices, but also enriches the stories we're able to tell. Introducing: RODENT 🐀 a short film supported by Silverback Films, created by talented shooting-director Joe Fereday. The film is the winning concept from our inaugural staff short film competition, giving those working at Silverback an opportunity to experience the full filmmaking process and embrace their creativity. The winner receives the green-light to turn their concept into reality - taking it from pitch through to post-production - with mentorship, full financing and hands-on support.  Rodent is a gripping, cautionary tale that blends drama and natural history, set in a dystopian future of our own making (and created entirely in Bristol). Our new film 'Secret Lives of Orangutans' premiered on Netflix today! Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, this intimate look into the fascinating lives of Sumatran orangutans, reveals just how relatable these great apes truly are. Orangutans are famously difficult to film in the wild but over 2 years our dedicated team followed a remarkable group of orangutans in the swamp forests of Suaq. They worked closely with scientists, local guides and park rangers from Gunung Leuser National Park, using new filming techniques to capture unprecedented footage and rare behaviours. We recently hosted an insight day with Babbasa (who support 16-25 year olds from disadvantaged communities in their career aspirations) to help a group of passionate young people learn about making natural history films, and share tips on how to break into the industry.
