Section 21 evictions, also known as "no-fault" evictions, are a major cause of homelessness - at least 26,000 households have been evicted through the law since 2019, according to Shelter. Section 21 allows landlords to evict tenants with just two months’ notice without giving them a reason. This leaves thousands of people who are renting in the lurch, forever unstable and unable to find a place to build a life. The insecurity can place a huge burden on people affecting their health and wellbeing. Some renters are afraid to speak out about issues with their housing for fear of being evicted. In tomorrow's #KingsSpeech, the Government must stick to its manifesto pledge to "immediately" ban so-called no-fault evictions and deliver further improvements for renters through the Renters Reform Bill. Together, let's make renting safer, fairer and more secure for families across the country. Everyone deserves a place to call home. #HousingCrisis #HomelessnessAwareness #Renting #EvictionBan

Earlier this year, our women's rough sleeping report, in partnership with Solace Women's Aid found there could be 𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 more women sleeping rough in England than official government data suggests. Yeah, that's right. Up to 𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 as many women on the streets as officially reported. The results are taken from our 2023 women's rough sleeping census, which aims to give a more accurate picture of women's rough sleeping across the country. These figures are shocking, but we were not surprised by these figures. We know women on the streets are often forced to hide for their safety, which means they are historically undercounted and cannot easily access support. Our 2024 census occurred last month, and we'll release the figures next year. But we know they won't show that things have improved. That's why we're calling for the Government to urgently overhaul the way female rough sleepers are counted in data and tackle the barriers to support that homeless women face. Find out more about our women's rough sleeping on our website: https://ow.ly/I44F50TT6Xx #HomelessnessAwareness #RoughSleeping #WomensSupport

The only thing we're scared of this #Halloween is the capital's #homelesness crisis... (No, we're not joking) - More than 183,000 Londoners homeless and living in temporary accommodation. - At least one homeless child in every London classroom. - A 58% increase in rough sleeping over the last decade. But this isn't a made-up horrors like ghosts and zombies, but actual scary stats, with Londoners living through this reality every single day. It's not good enough - and we hope next Halloween, we've seen a vast improvement to London's #homelessness crisis. #Halloween2024 #LondonCharity #HomelessnessAwareness #Scary #GhostStories

Budget 2024: Snap Verdict While yesterday's Budget didn't announce any huge investment to resolve the country's #homelessness crisis, we are glad to see the Government make tentative steps to resolve long-term structural issues that cause #homelessness, alongside the #RentersRights Bill coming next year. Namely, an extra £500m investment for more social and affordable homes AND the ability for councils to retain all of the money made from selling off council housing. A chronic shortage of social or council homes in the capital leaves hundreds of thousands of Londoners with no option, but to turn to unstable private rental market, with sky-high rents increasing every year. The pressure of these housing situation often push families into #homelessness, living in unsuitable and poor-quality temporary accommodation - at great expense to local councils and the tax payer. This is not a short term fix, but is a long-term solution that should alleviate pressure on a struggling system. More social housing works for us all and can help end homelessness in our country. But, with #homelessness at record high levels after a decade of inaction, we need to see bolder action to reach this goal, including the Government's promise to deliver a long-term plan to stop this scandal. No one should be homeless in 2024. #HousingCrisis #Budget2024 #SocialHousing #AffordableHomes #CouncilHousing

Her story is a powerful insight into the unique challenges that women experiencing homelessness face, often experiencing #domesticabuse, violence on the streets and additional barriers to accessing safe housing. We hope this documentary will highlight the importance of specialised services for women, providing safe spaces, specialist support, and a path to independence. 🏠 We're deeply grateful to Lainey for sharing her time and experiences, and we couldn't be prouder of her progress since she began working with her. She is a true testament to one of our pillars: that homelessness is an experience, not a forever. And with the right support, it can be ended. 💪 Don’t miss the documentary tonight at 9pm on ITV. 9PM TONIGHT, DON'T MISS IT. 📺 We're proud to be part of a new ITV documentary, '𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘮: 𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴'. The two-part documentary focuses on #homelessness in England, following Prince William's #homewards charity - with 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙬'𝙨 𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙙𝙚 𝙖𝙩 9𝙥𝙢 (we'll be sharing more details!) We truly believe #homelessness can be ended in the UK, so we're glad that the Prince is working to not only highlight the issue, but speaking to experts, meeting those with lived experience and creating solutions that can further tackle the escalating #homelessness crisis across the country. Homelessness is just a experience, not a forever. #HomelessnessAwareness #WeCanEndHomelessnessness #ITV #Documentary #PrinceWilliam

We hope you got you attention! That's a lot of money, right?! ⚠️ But not in a good way. New analysis reveals that London boroughs collectively spent £114m every month on average – or £4m daily – on temporary accommodation for homeless Londoners in the last financial year. This isn't the fault of local councils. They are doing their best, struggling to support skyrocketing numbers of homeless households, forced to house homeless families in expensive B&Bs due to lack of other suitable accommodation in the capital. This is a broken system. ❌ Costly for councils, placing them under severe financial strain, and truly devasting for the families forced to live without a place to call home. Ahead of today's budget, we need to see in full force the Government’s stated commitment to tackling homelessness, building the affordable housing our communities need and investing in vital preventative services. #HomelessnessAwareness #Budget2024 #HousingCrisis #APlaceToCallHome

Last year, #stylistmagazine featured our groundbreaking work supporting women facing homelessness... The article explored the trauma and challenges women endure on the streets. We’re incredibly proud of the three brave women who shared their powerful stories of abuse, neglect, and fear. Sadly, these stories are far too familiar - violence and abuse are almost universal for women sleeping rough. This is why our work, from our specialised women’s services to co-leading the Women’s Rough Sleeping Census, is vital to ensuring women experiencing #homelessness get the support they need and deserve. “The epicentre of a national crisis” ⚠️ ️More than 183,000 Londoners are estimated to be homeless and living in temporary accommodation according to a new report by #LondonCouncils, the group which represents all 32 London local authorities. 👨👩👦 This is the highest-ever level of recorded homelessness in the capital – equivalent to at least one in 50 Londoners. 📈 That means at least one person on your Routemaster is likely homeless right now. 🚌 Homelessness is devasting for every family, but also the communities we live in - impacting health, opportunities and wellbeing. Urgent action is needed to alleviate the crisis including building more affordable housing and investment in more #homelessness prevention services. #Budget2024 #Labour #HousingCrisis #TemporaryAccommodation #HomelessnessAwareness
