Happy Birthday Sling Aircraft! 16 years ago, on October 18th, 2008, the first Sling aircraft, ZU-ETO, soared into the sky, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. Over the past decade, Sling Aircraft has grown from a local visionary prototype to a global sensation and the most recent recipient of the coveted EAA August Raspet Award, known for its incredible performance, ease of handling and advanced features. Today, with more than 1,400 Sling aircraft sold worldwide across more than 30 countries, we celebrate not just an aircraft, but a legacy of innovation and adventure. Sling Aircraft founder, Mike Blyth, had this to say of his experience: “My dream had always been to one day create a successful aviation business and ultimately the world’s most loved light aircraft. Together with team Sling, in just 16 short years, we have already achieved much of what we set out to do. What never occurred to me was the joy that we would bring to so many people and it is through this joy and shared passion for aviation that we have developed solid, lifelong friendships with Sling owners and followers worldwide! Project H2 – The Dream Of Hydrogen Flight From the same team who bought you the e-Sling, we are excited to introduce this year's Cellsius focus students! Together with their sponsors, freelancers and mentors from previous years, these youth are more motivated than ever to celebrate their first flight next summer as part of Project H2! Their goal is to enable sustainable aviation which is why they are the first student team to build an aircraft powered by hydrogen. Using our latest kit aircraft, the Sling High Wing, thanks to the high energy density of hydrogen, their hope is to achieve market-ready performance: ✔️2 hours of cruising flight. ✔️Thanks to a range of 200 km, the whole of Switzerland can be reached from Zurich. ✔️0g CO 2 - A hydrogen aircraft that does not emit CO 2 . However, there is still much work to be done and a lot to learn. Building a Sling in a Cape Coffee Shop! Meet passionate New Zealand Slingers, George and Glen, who are taking DIY building to a whole new level… but not from the usual confines of their New Zealand-based hangar. Instead, they are building their Sling TSi from the heart of the Honeybadger Cape Town café in the city center! “Well, it’s pretty hard to beat the Lightning in coolness factor but from a “something different” point of view, we (well, mainly me) are building a Sling TSi in a café in Cape Town. The wings and tail were built from a flat pack but since I actually live in New Zealand and don’t have the ability to have the time to do the same for the fuselage, we have gone with the fast build fuselage which now occupies the space—because building a plane in a coffee shop? This Man Built A Plane For His Family In His Garden (CNN) “Mechanical engineer, Ashok Aliseril, spent 18 months building his four-seater Sling TSi aircraft so that he could fly his family around the UK.It wasn’t until he moved near to an airfield in the UK over a decade ago that he began to seriously consider learning to fly a plane. PH-AER (nicknamed 'Jolene') had her maiden flight on August 7th. We are based in the Netherlands and collected our Quick Build in February 2022. Both Erwin van der Waal and myself worked on it for 2,5 years and now have the pleasure of flying. It is a remarkable plane. Now we are part of the ‘flying’ Sling community😉!” Thanks Marc!
