Small Business Charter

Deeply honoured to have been awarded a fellowship by the Chartered Association of Business Schools for services to UK business schools and the business community. Specifically I have chaired the Small Business Charter over the last three years which has delivered the Help to Grow: Management Course via world class business schools the length and breadth of the country. With thousands of companies completing the course it has become the gold standard of enterprise support. It has been a privilege to have been part of the planning, deployment and delivery of this outstanding initiative. In turn, a special note of thanks to Lord Karan Bilimoria Robert MacIntosh Flora Hamilton Barney Roe and the incredible Small Business Charter board and team as well as colleagues at the Department for Business and Trade. Along the way it has been a pleasure working with Paul Scully and Kevin Hollinrake MP who were fantastically supportive Ministers. As well as working with Charlotte Keenan Anne Kiem OBE Ann Francke OBE Byron Dixon OBE Anthony Impey MBE Jon Foster Mark Hart and many more. Thanks also to great friends of the programme Jonathan Moules Baback Yazdani Michelle Ovens CBE Emma Jones. My term draws to a close at the end of the year so still much to do but today feels like an appropriate moment to say thank you for the opportunity. And a final note of appreciation for the incredible late Lord Young of Graffham. Someone who taught me with so much human warmth that the mark of service is the pursuit of solutions not problems. Thank you David for your support and belief which inspired me to have a go. It has been amazing!

A recent Small Business Charter survey of 1,200 SME leaders in the UK revealed that many feel "overwhelmed" by the demands of their roles, with a quarter feeling like they should know more than they do.
