New research from Edinburgh’s Smart Data Foundry has revealed the significant impact of bank rate rises on consumer finances in Scotland.
From the moment we wake up, we generate data – as consumers, as workers, as citizens. Part of that “data trail” creates a digital history of our economic activity all day, every day – by doing our banking to pay bills, making purchases online, using internet apps to manage all aspects of our financial lives, and much more. The data we generate can deliver huge benefits to society if we can unlock it safely, which means protecting people’s privacy. Smart Data Foundry was created to deliver those benefits, to unlock that data safely. It brings together companies, public bodies, charities, and universities with a common goal – to use data in a way people can trust and to deliver economic and social benefits for everyone.

The report outlines what the UK financial services sector needs to grow across the UK. A personal highlight was hearing from innovative Scottish #FinTech firms like CreateFuture and Smart Data Foundry, who are driving collaboration between academia and business to strengthen Scotland’s financial services, especially in the FinTech space. A big thank you Scottish Financial Enterprise and Caroline Stevenson at Burness Paull LLP for hosting a wonderful dinner, bringing together key leaders from Edinburgh’s financial and professional services sector #FPS!
