Our Co-Founder, Dr Jay Verma, responds to the report by Prof Lord Darzi: "There is a huge amount of talent in this country creating answers to problems being faced across the NHS, most notably around clinical capacity and making sure we are using data correctly to prevent worsening health conditions.   "Many of these providers operate in primary care, where there simply is not the time nor focused leadership to understand and implement what is available and what works.   "Over 60% of NHS funding goes into hospitals and integrated care boards are hospital-heavy. This needs to change.    "The best way to improve the nation's health and thus improve NHS is to focus on education and prevention. This is best done in primary care and in the community.   "While a new laser might make for a more sensational news story, measures that reduce administrative burdens and use AI to identify high-risk patients—such as those with high blood pressure or diabetes—are likely to help more people and have a greater overall impact."

Ahead of the report by Lord Darzi on the NHS, which is expected to say that technology in the NHS is 15 years behind the private sector and there is too much focus on hospitals, we are resharing the mini manifesto of our co-founder, Dr Jay Verma on how to improve General Practice for all. #generalpractice #NHS #lorddarzi https://lnkd.in/eR_TRfbB

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and it’s an opportunity to breaking down the stigma surrounding talking about mental health, including suicidal thoughts. Over 5,600 people committed suicide in England in 2023, equivalent to over 11 suicides per 100,000 people. In fact, for both males and females aged 5-34, intentional self-harm is the highest cause of death. Behind every one of these statistics is a person. A life. A tragedy. Research indicates that mental health conditions such as depression, psychosis and substance use are associated with an increased risk of suicide. SmartLife Health are providing our SmartSearches for SMI and CCMI for free for three months to help practices care for more patients suffering from poor mental health. People with SMIs are often difficult to reach and evidence shows they often neglect their health, resulting in poor health outcomes. SmartSearches for SMI/CCMI is designed to help practices contact their patients with these conditions and help teams monitor their progress, allowing multidisciplinary working. Please contact us to receive this free service and together we can help more people manage mental health. *SmartLife Health is offering a complimentary three-months of SmartSearches to practices that sign up and mention 'Suicide Prevention.' This initiative is designed to enhance the quantity and quality of patient reviews and treatment plans. #worldsuicidepreventionday #mentalhealth

❄ Preparing your patients for colder weather ❄ This autumn and winter, make sure your asthma patients can receive the best treatment and book their reviews simply and easily with SmartScheduler. This year, there is the added pressure of the removal of the winter fuel payment, which could leave vulnerable patients more at risk of exacerbations if they worry about the cost of heating their home. You can prioritise these patients with our SmartSearches tool for asthma and COPD and ensure they receive the care which can help prevent exacerbations or attacks. SmartScheduler allows you to contact all the patients with asthma and invites them to book in for a review at a time convenient to you and them. Reviews can be conducted easily, with patients at highest risk highlighted on the dashboard. Appointments can be carried out virtually or in person, and care plans completed and sent directly to patients. With SmartScheduler, everything is SNOMED coded back into the patient record, allowing your QOF register to be accurate and up to date. ⌛ 16% of patients in the UK account for 34.5% of GP time - are you spending your time wisely? One of the leading pressures in general practice is the growing prevalence of multiple illnesses. The number of patients with three or more long-term illnesses has almost doubled since 2005, from 9.7 per cent of people, to 16 per cent in 2019. New research has shown that GPs are spending more than a third of their time on patients with three or more long term conditions, even though this group account for only 16 per cent of the population. But at SmartLife our own research showed that the problem is the frequent attenders who do not have serious health conditions, not the ones who need clinical support. SmartFlow breaks down practice data and shows you a breakdown of appointment data by clinical time and administrative time - and cost. It's designed not only to help GP practices be more efficient but to ensure equitable access of time to all your patients who need care and advice. "Stigmatising patients with long term conditions is not the way we should do things in medicine: those patients need our care and many are likely to be taking part in treatments or long term health reviews and it is great that they take the management of their health seriously," says Dr Jay Verma. "We know this can prevent a condition from worsening and in cases like diabetes, good condition management can actually reverse the condition." Achieve #QOF and enhanced services with SmartSearches SmartSearches is the best way to help practices and PCNs manage their patient lists for long term conditions with one simple dashboard for each condition and trackers to monitor your whole PCN's progress. Responding to the data showing that firefighters are called out every four hours to help move overweight Britons, Dr Jay Verma, GP Partner and founder of SmartLife Health said there needs to be a "renewed focus on the treatment of metabolic conditions which should be viewed as an investment in our health, not a cost." "The increasing prevalence of obesity and metabolic related health conditions places a huge burden on the NHS but more importantly, it severely impacts quality of life for patients. "You cannot untangle obesity and metabolic diseases - they are entwined and we should be focusing on their prevention and management as a priority, including in the national curriculum. "Being able to properly manage these conditions at primary care level has been proven to increase life expectancy and this new data also shows what we already knew - that it will save money by preventing worsening health which requires hospital treatment. "This should include a focus on helping patients meet their Type 2 diabetes targets (known as the three treatment targets) and ensuring they understand the importance of regular health checks. "But we should also be identifying patients before they develop the disease and helping them make lifestyle changes to improve their diet and reduce their weight. "We also found that group consultations and education helped patients reduce their weight and the severity of their Type 2 diabetes, and in some cases reversed it. "Technology can help here, as we have proven, and should be widespread across the NHS." https://lnkd.in/eu7bEZF9 #obesity #metabolicdiseases #digitalhealth #diabetes

🚨 Back to school 🚨 Vaccinations can save lives and providing immunisation for babies and pregnant mothers is such an important part of our work in primary care. As children start, or return, to school, it's a great time to remind parents about the importance of immunisations. We know primary care teams work hard to deliver the programme to patients and the targets are very high. SmartSearches makes it even easier for you to contact parents of infants and young children who are due their vaccines and boosters, including the 4 in 1 pre school booster. Already, a PCNs who have been using SmartSearches have achieved 69% for 18 month vaccinations, up 7% in only a few weeks, and 61% for 8 month targets, up 3%. One search, one dashboard and one way to make things easier for your clinical and admin teams to deliver live saving vaccines to babies and young children. #childhoodvaccines #whoopingcough #primarycare #digitalhealth

"You cannot untangle obesity and diabetes - they are the entwined and we should be focusing on their prevention and management as a priority, including in the national curriculum," says Dr Jay Verma responding to new data revealing the cost of obesity on the NHS. "Being able to properly manage these conditions at primary care level has been proven to increase life expectancy and this new data also shows what we already knew - that it will save money by preventing worsening health which requires hospital treatment." Dr Verma, who is the founder of HealthTech company SmartLife Health, developed a unique dashboard to help GP practices improve identification and treatment of patients with diabetes, which is available to primary care networks for free. "We developed our SmartSearches diabetes tool to help practices meet their type 2 diabetes targets, improving outcomes for patients and reducing the burden on primary care and other parts of the health service. At the same time, we also work with patients who have diabetes to help reverse their condition through education, lifestyle changes and medication." Practices using SmartSearches have already seen an improvement in the results for patients with diabetes, which Dr Verma says comes from allowing clinicians to focus on treatment and not admin. "At SmartLife Health we work with clinicians who focus on a patient's three treatment targets and lifestyle changes which can reduce HbA1c and blood pressure, resulting in improved health and reduced risk from cardiovascular disease and other complications of metabolic diseases. "In the long run, this can save money across the NHS and improve lives for people who struggle with metabolic health conditions, including diabetes and obesity."
