This Sunday marks the 105th Remembrance Day since it's beginning in 1919. Remembrance Sunday holds particular significance for our college because of the Famous Fifty. Their legacy is a poignant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who came before us. Let’s honour their memory and ensure their stories are never forgotten. Honouring the Famous Fifty: Coalville’s brave civilian volunteers who led the way in WW1. These men, mostly miners and engineering workers, left their local industries in August 1914 to answer the call of duty. They were the first civilian volunteers from the country to land in France, paving the way for thousands more. Their journey began with basic training at High Tor, marching to local churches, and receiving their uniforms just days before deployment. On October 30, 1914, they marched to Hugglescote’s St John Baptist Church for a final service, then to Coalville Train Station, cheered on by families and well-wishers. Their courage and camaraderie were unmatched, and they became known as the Famous Fifty, a symbol of Coalville’s spirit and sacrifice. Share their story and keep their memory alive. #WW1History #FamousFifty #CoalvilleHeroes #Bravery #Remembrance #NeverForget #SMBCollegeGroup

Meet Georgia & Heidi, our lovely Leicester Longwools, bred by our Animal Management Lecturer Abbie Hatton. The Leicester Longwools are classed as 'at risk' on the Watch List of the British Rare Breeds. This is a really exciting opportunity to add these to our range of animals at our Brooksby Campus, allowing students to be part of caring for and helping keep this rare breed alive and thriving in the UK. #LeicesterLongwool #RareBreeds #SheepLove #BritishFarming #HalterTraining #Animals #Conservation #AnimalManagement #College #SMBCollege

Through WILL, we're committed to: 💡 Celebrating EDI in all our operations 🔎 Monitoring our progress and impact 👂 Listening to voices across the college 📈 Leading the way with equal opportunities for all When asked what EDI Means to him, Dylan, a student at our Stephenson Campus, beautifully summed it up: "Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion means that you should treat everyone how you would like to be treated." 💬 You can read our full statement on our website https://buff.ly/3YLPCAo 🔗
