We had an incredible time attending the SME4Labour reception in partnership with the Wine and Spirit Trade Association. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with businesses, ministers and industry leaders. Attending the SME4Labour - Small Business Dinner during The Labour Party Conference in Liverpool was an inspiring experience. The event, organised by SME4Labour in partnership with Intuit, was a crucial platform for discussing the pivotal role of small businesses in shaping economic policies. Having Gareth Thomas MP, the Minister for Small Business, Enterprise and Access to Finance, as a guest speaker, highlighted the importance of engaging policymakers directly on issues that affect SMEs, such as late payments, digitalisation, competition and the push towards Net Zero. His insights, along with those of other esteemed attendees, underscored the need for continuous dialogue between business stakeholders and government. The evening was enriched by contributions from Ibrahim Dogus, the dedicated founder of SME4Labour, who has consistently supported the Turkish, Kurdish, and Turkish Cypriot communities through various initiatives. His entrepreneurial spirit was echoed by other prominent figures such as Kerry McLean of Intuit, Rob Burlison who leads Global Corporate Affairs and Strategic Initiatives at Intuit QuickBooks, and Afzal Khan CBE MP, each bringing unique perspectives to the table. Additionally, the event featured insights from industry leaders like Terry Corby CMgr CCMI of Good Business Pays, Emma Jones of Enterprise Nation, Daniel Woolf, an expert in public policy and campaigns, Conrad Ford from Allica Bank, and Richard Bamber of Anthony's Travel. This gathering not only fostered collaboration but also fortified our collective efforts to influence policies that support the growth and sustainability of small businesses. It is through such dialogues that we can ensure that the voices of SMEs are heard and considered in policy-making processes. A special thanks to my Intuit Accountants Council colleagues Aaron Patrick, Eriona Bajrakurtaj, Kylie Fieldhouse, and Amy Hancock for their continued support and contributions. It was fantastic to kick off this year's Labour Party (UK) Conference with a session on offshore wind and meshed grids, in partnership with Offshore4sure. We were joined by MPs Jennifer Riddell-Carpenter, Dan Norris, Matthew Patrick and Barry Gardiner, as well as Fiona Gilmore from Offshore4sure.
