London homelessness hits new levels! An emergency warning was issued in October as London homelessness hit new levels. A London Councils’ report highlights that more than 183,000 Londoners are estimated to be homeless and living in temporary accommodation arranged by their local borough. This is the highest-ever level of recorded homelessness in the capital – equivalent to at least one in 50 Londoner. We work with housing organisations throughout the UK addressing the homelessness crisis, including Peter Bedford Housing Association and Trinity Housing Project in Greater London. Investment Announcement! We are delighted to announce we have invested £4.925m in Blue Triangle, a social care provider and Registered Social Landlord (RSL). Blue Triangle is the first housing association in Scotland to receive investment from the SASH II fund. Blue Triangle currently runs 26 services across 10 local authorities. With this funding, the organisation intends to invest in new properties across Scotland, increasing the capacity of stretched resources against the backdrop of a housing crisis. Blue Triangle aims to rebuild confidence for the people they support, helping them to reintegrate into their communities. The SASH II fund aims to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals by increasing their access to safe, stable and appropriate housing, and to make charitable organisations financially stronger by helping them to buy housing in a low risk way. #socialinvestment #housing #Scottishhousingnews To read more go to: https://lnkd.in/eJ5h7WGN

Homelessness is a growing crisis in Scotland. The latest figures from Homeless Network Scotland show a 4% rise in homelessness applications – topping 40,000 households asking their council for help during 2023-24. An 8% rise in live cases nationwide to 31,870 and a 9% rise in people stuck in temporary accommodation – a record high – including more than 10,000 kids waiting for a permanent home. Our Social and Sustainable Housing fund has supported several Scottish organisations, including Simon Community Scotland, the Positive Steps Partnership in Dundee, and Homes for Good Glasgow, which have used this financial backing to buy safe, affordable homes for vulnerable people. Positive news about the social impact investment market last week! Better Society Capital revealed that that UK’s social impact investment market grew 7% to reach £10 billion at the end of 2023. This shows stable investor support for initiatives focused on tackling social issues such as child poverty, homelessness and long-term health conditions, despite economic challenges. Loans to charities and social enterprises saw 16% growth, reaching £4.1 billion in 2023. This was driven by charity bonds, increased bank lending and debt funds.
