Social Security Scotland

Government Administration

We are the executive agency responsible for the delivery of devolved social security benefits in Scotland.

About us

We are an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government. We have been set up to administer the new Scottish social security system. Our aim: Contribute to the creation of a fairer society. Our vision: Provide support to each of us when we need it. The benefits we deliver are being introduced in stages. Once fully operational, we will deliver benefits for people on low incomes, disabled people, carers, young people entering the workplace and to help people heat their homes.

Social Security Scotland delivers 15 benefits supporting families on low incomes, disabled people, carers, people who need help paying for a funeral, young people entering the workplace and people who need help with their energy bills. You can read more about the principles and commitments in Our Charter ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eqeWPGYE

  • Do you work for a company that hires young people? The cost of starting a new job can add up, especially if a young person has been unemployed and has less money. Job Start Payment can help. It's a one off payment of £314.45 to help people between the ages of 16-24 with the costs of starting a new role. The value increases to £503.10 if they are the main carer for any children. • Healthcare professionals play a key role in helping terminally-ill people get faster access to the maximum possible disability benefit payment by making sure they are aware of our fast-tracked application route. When someone is diagnosed with a terminal illness, a registered doctor or nurse involved in the patient’s diagnosis and/or care should complete a Benefits Assessment under Special Rules in Scotland (BASRiS) form as outlined in the Chief Medical Officer’s guidance. This can be submitted directly to us, meaning we can invite a terminally-ill person to apply for disability benefits. Read more at https://lnkd.in/ewuyZQuV
