Soil Association Exchange
Farming
Helping farmers become more profitable through measuring and rewarding sustainable farming practices.
About us
Soil Association Exchange has been developed with hundreds of farmers to meet the need for practical sustainability support at farm level, enabling a prosperous future of thriving ecosystems and a resilient farm to food supply chain. We share with many a belief that by working in harmony with the natural resources available to us, we can continue to farm a green and prosperous land for years and centuries to come. With that belief comes our mission to empower and enable better farming for all. Exchange builds on the experience of the Soil Association - who for 75 years - has believed that that food, forestry, and how we farm, hold the key to solving the nature, climate, and health emergencies. The Soil Association is our charitable parent that joins forces with people and nature to transform our future from the ground up.

Our new ‘Banking for Change’ report launches today. Supported by British Business Bank with oversight from Green Finance Institute, this farmer-led research study explores what financial barriers might be preventing farmers from fully committing to transition to a farming system that prioritises climate and nature. The research found: 🚜 66% of farmers agree that financial and business risks are barriers to transitioning. 🌾59% of farmers feel locked into a system that they know, even though the system is not resilient to climate impacts or fluctuating input costs. 🐄 56% of farmers said they lack the financial flexibility needed for experimentation and learning during the transition process. From Land's End to John o'Groats, we've measured farms up and down the country to build a better picture of on-farm environmental impact. One of the most northerly farms to go through Soil Association Exchange features in our latest case study. At Kirkfield Farm, creating a resilient farm for future generations and making space for nature go hand in hand. Read the case study here: https://lnkd.in/epHhFHQ9

"I know where I need to get to in the future". Our partnership with Lloyds Banking Group is a powerful one, putting data into the hands of farmers and allowing them to move forwards with confidence. Check out this video with Soil Association Exchange farmer Mariella.
🤝 Meet Mariella from Southend Barns Farm. We recently spent a day on her farm to hear all about the sustainable changes she's been making to her farming practices, and what advice she has for others. You may also see some familiar faces in Victoria, Relationship Director of Agriculture, and Soil Association Exchange Soil Association, who play a part in the story. Take it away Mariella... 🎬 #SustainableFarming #Sustainability #Agriculture #NYCW

Today marks the launch of our new report - From Data to Decisions. The landmark report covers insights gained from 685 farms covering over 235,000 hectares of farmland. The UK's most comprehensive holistic farm level baselining. Farming is part of the solution to the climate and nature crisis, but we also need productive and profitable farms. The report, and the complimentary report from Lloyds Banking Group launched today, show a pathway to this - demonstrating that profitable farms are indeed sustainable farms. Check out the report here: https://lnkd.in/eyWKZFmC You can access the 'Grounded in Evidence' report from Lloyds Bank here: https://lnkd.in/e_ng-5dc Thanks to our many partners who have worked with us to enable such scale across farms: Lloyds Banking Group, Co-op, Marks and Spencer,, Riverford Organic Farmers, Cibus, Arla Foods, Nestlé, Compass Group

Dynamic Benchmarking is here, and it's got the power to completely change the way farmers understand the way their farms work for nature. For the first time, Exchange farmers will be able to compare how they preform against over 900 other farms in each of our measurement metrics. 🚜 This means a richer level of insight, real-world comparisons, and a shared understanding of what's truly possible on-farm.
