We recently achieved and maintained our Investors in People Gold accreditation! It's a remarkable achievement attained by only 28% of assessed businesses, and a reflection of the incredible work that our people team do here at Solus in cultivating a positive and empowering work environment. We caught up with Holly Oag, Head of People at Solus, on what this achievement signifies, how it benefits the team, and how we will continue to drive the people aspect of our 'people, product, planet' strategy. Read the conversation here: https://lnkd.in/ewAPiyte A big thank you to the People team, Holly Oag, Olivia Hanson and Jo Hemming, for making this happen and for everything they do for us!

We had a blast celebrating our new terrazzo range, Spolia, last night at our Manchester studio! It was fantastic to see so many from Manchester's A&D community come out to learn about Spolia and create their own terrazzo slabs using glass, watch pieces, and aggregates. Our guests' unique creations have been taken away to be cured and polished and will return to the studio to be viewed soon. A big thanks to North Brewing Co for providing lots of delicious beers for the event - the Cloudy Lemon Radler was a particular hit! Looking forward to the next event at our Manchester studio! Reflecting on our "Women in Architecture: Forging New Paths" event last week, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who attended. Thank you to our panellists: Sabrina Klor, Michela Carla Falcone, Angharad Palmer, Jean Wang, Laura Cushnie, Niya Ann Sharon, and host Tania Ihlenfeld for sharing their personal career stories which were truly inspiring. Here’s an overview of what our panellists covered: Sabrina Klor: Sabrina shared her experiences navigating the architecture field as a woman, rising to COO in one practice and emphasising the importance of inclusive policies and achieving work-life balance amidst professional challenges. Jean Wang: Jean discussed her transition from landscape architecture to a broader architectural practice, highlighting the importance of embracing diverse perspectives and mentorship in her professional development. Michela Falcone: Michela focused on discussing the unpredictability of career paths in architecture. She shared her own journey of unexpected shifts from working in Italy to Thailand, then Paris, and eventually starting her own practice and focused on teaching complex geometry. Laura Cushnie: Laura described her experiences with mentorship, detailing how guidance has clarified her career direction and enabled her to shift across vastly different sectors and explore new aspects of architecture, contributing to her growth as a leader. Angharad Palmer: Angharad reflected on her journey from architecture to client-side development, highlighting her passion for sustainable design and urban regeneration, and how embracing challenges has shaped her career and ‘anti-career’ outlook. Niya Sharon: Niya shared the challenges of establishing her own practice in India and receiving recognition for capabilities here in the UK. She expressed a candid, ‘how hard can it be’ mentality throughout her career and there is plenty more to come. Together, we celebrated diverse voices and built connections that will lead to future collaborations. Couldn’t make it? Catch up with the event recording on our website. Heartfelt thanks to our sponsors Solus, Bespoke Careers, and You See Media for their support. #WomenInArchitecture #ForgingNewPaths #Mentorship #ArchitecturalLeadership #Inclusion #Diversity #ArchitectureCommunity #ProfessionalGrowth Tania Ihlenfeld, Karen Fugle, Dr Ana McMillin, Yamon Phu Kyaw

Exciting news! Join us at our Manchester studio on 15th August for the launch of Spolia, a revolutionary terrazzo made in Manchester from bespoke demolition waste.     Located in Swinton, the factory has been manufacturing terrazzo since the 1930s, connecting us to Manchester's rich industrial heritage and supporting local workers.      During the launch event, you'll have the unique opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind terrazzo tile using demolition waste. Your collaborative creation will be taken to our Swinton factory for pressing, curing, and polishing, before being returned to the Solus studio for you to enjoy.      Food, drinks, music, and the opportunity to network with some interesting people in a beautiful space. What’s not to like?     RSVP now to secure your spot!  https://lnkd.in/eH6fkuwj

Ad | UK-based ceramics supplier Solus Ceramics has created a range of bespoke terrazzo tiles made from waste materials from project sites. The range is called Spolia and utilises waste aggregates from demolition sites across the UK to create terrazzo tiles and countertops. The initiative allows designers to incorporate waste materials from their own project sites into site-specific terrazzo tiles and surfaces, reusing local materials in new designs.

We launched Spolia last night! Solus' Sam Frith unveiled this innovative terrazzo, upcycling demolition waste into bespoke tiles. Quiligotti's Daniel Riley shared their unique history as the UK's last commercial terrazzo maker. We watched a short film about Finsbury Dials, "The Building that Built a Building”, featuring Spolia. Together, we crafted a one-of-a-kind countertop filled with a treasure trove of site debris, samples, and found objects. And we topped off the night with negronis at the beautiful J. Adams & Co.'s showroom across the road, admiring the terrazzo in its new home. Explore Spolia here: https://lnkd.in/eEKgE4N6

Introducing Spolia, a groundbreaking terrazzo range made in the UK that is revolutionising the construction industry’s approach to waste. In addition to a range of standard colours, a bespoke service allows you to incorporate waste materials from project sites into one-of-a-kind terrazzo creations, creating a narrative of reuse and revitalisation. The result is a product that is entirely unique to that building, with each speck within the tile telling a story of the history and materiality of the site. Jonathan Schofield is a man about town – quite literally! He took us and some valued clients on a walking tour of the architectural highlights of Manchester last week, which included our own building, the old Manchester Law Library on Kennedy Street.   We were intrigued to learn about the Manchester origins of Rolls Royce, a client we've been proud to serve since 1996. Engineer and car designer Henry Royce met car dealer Charles Rolls at the Midland Hotel in Manchester in 1904. Solus supplies ceramics to Rolls Royce showrooms worldwide, contributing to the presentation of their prestigious brand and vehicles.   Our guide tailored his talk to our love for ceramics, explaining that in the smoky smoggy Manchester of yesteryear, tiled exteriors were easier to clean (plus ça change!). After tramping through St Peters Square, admiring St George’s House and other magnificent buildings, we finished at Peveril of the Peak, a pub clad entirely in beautiful ceramics – a tile nerds dream!
