  • Final Call For Pensioners To Claim £200 Pensioners who just missed out on Winter Fuel Allowance this year have one more week to claim a £200 payment from South Tyneside Council. The Council is working hand in hand with agencies across the borough to support applications for pensioners just above the Pension Credit threshold by Monday 24 March. • English Tourism Week – Let’s Celebrate South Tyneside! ⭐ We’re shining a light on the places that make South Tyneside special, like our award winning beaches! 🏖️ Sandhaven in South Shields offers long stretches of golden sands, perfect to enjoy a picnic, relax and watch the world go by. Sandhaven was the UK's beach of the year 2022, according to The Sunday Times annual best beaches guide. The beach and surrounding area is often home to many events, such as sandcastle competitions, kids entertainment, music events and lots more. It's a great place to enjoy some exercise, whether that's for a run or a game of volleyball (volleyball nets are in place during the summer). ❤️The beach is much loved and it's easy to see why given its location. Roll on the summer! Costa Del Shields ☀️🌞 #EnglishTourismWeek25 #SouthTyneside

  • South Tyneside Council has published its Child Poverty Strategy - the first in the North East. South Tyneside is one of the most deprived communities in the country. A third of South Tyneside neighbourhoods are in the top 10 per cent of most deprived areas nationally. South Tyneside will take a system wide approach targeted at mitigating, preventing, and alleviating child poverty in the Borough. Nationally, child poverty has risen over recent years and nearly a third (29.2 per cent) of UK children were living in households in poverty in 2022/23. Development of the Child Poverty Strategy comes after the Council held a Child Poverty Summit in October 2024, bringing together partners from across the North East to build up a comprehensive picture of the situation in South Tyneside and to help identify actions as detailed in the proposed new strategy.
