Over the next 5 years we’re investing more than £700 million to reduce storm overflows across the region as part of a record £3.2 billion investment 🌊 💧 Our ‘Turning the Tide’ investment programme is helping us become the first water company to meet the Government’s target of less than 10 spills per year 💧 We're committed to eliminating storm overflows at bathing and shellfish waters by 2030 “Everyone who works at South West Water, or with us, live in the regions we support, and they want to make a difference. About us
South West Water is part of Pennon Group plc. We provide reliable, efficient and high quality drinking water and waste water services throughout Cornwall and Devon and in small areas of Dorset and Somerset. We also look after the region's bathing waters and coastline. South West Water came into being in 1989 with the privatisation of the water industry. We inherited a water system suffering from a century of neglect but, thanks to the tireless work of our 1,300 employees, have brought the region's drinking water, sewerage systems and bathing waters into line with the stringent UK and European Union standards. This extensive programme of environmental improvement has resulted in some of the finest bathing waters in Europe, picturesque scenery and clean rivers with stunning wildlife. We believe that by investing in the future of our region, we are not only improving the quality of life for today's residents and visitors but are also taking responsibility for future generations.

We've reduced storm overflow spills at one of our highest spilling sites in Cornwall. 🌊 This is a result of our recent investment in the wastewater treatment works in Fraddon, where we've installed a storm storage tank. The tank holds excess flows during heavy rainfall, which reduces the amount of times the storm overflow operates. We're committed to reducing storm overflows and improving water quality across the South West. We're working hard to become the first water company to meet the government's target of achieving less than 10 spills per overflow per year – a decade ahead of target. Meet Joanna, our Natural Resources - Assistant Project Manager 👋💧 Through her apprenticeship she’s not only gained a huge amount of knowledge from the Operations Management course, but also has practical experience applying this knowledge in the workplace. “This has been a massive boost to my confidence and encouraged me to take on more responsibilities than I would have done otherwise.” #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NationalApprenticeshipWeek25 #NAW2025

Meet Apprentice Engineering Technician, Matthew 👋 Matthew was between jobs and uncertain what direction to go in, but now as an apprentice at South West Water he’s proud to have won two awards. He was surprised by how supportive his managers were, making him valued and not just a number. Matthew is 31 and says, “there is no such thing as too old to start again and every day is a school day so why not start an apprenticeship and get paid while you learn lots of new life skills.” ⭐ #NationalApprenticeshipWeek25 #NationalApprenticeshipWeek25 #NAW2025

It's National Apprenticeship Week and we're celebrating the hard work, dedication and talent of our own apprentices. ✨ Meet Saffron, our Group Internal Auditor. As a practical learner, Saffron chose an apprenticeship to gain hands-on experience in finance. Saffron knew that university wasn’t for her and instead wanted to learn on the job. She was also attracted to the variety of work experience positions included within the apprenticeship, but what surprised her was the scope of opportunity within the water sector. 💧 “There really is something for everybody in the water sector, there are so many roles I would never have known existed prior to my apprenticeship.” #NationalApprenticeshipWeek25 #NationalApprenticeshipWeek25 #NAW2025 Pennon Group Plc Water UK

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our WaterShare+ meeting in Sidmouth on Thursday, January 30th, and made it a huge success. 👏 We took a tour around the Sidmouth wastewater treatment works to understand the journey of wastewater. Afterwards, we discussed our business plan and held a Q&A session, which the Independent Challenge Panel chaired. We're glad we received such positive feedback. For those who missed this meeting, we've planned a series of similar sessions across our region throughout the year. We’re proud to be collaborating with other like-minded organisations, landowners and farmers to restore our damaged peatlands through the South West Peatland Partnership (SWPP). 💚🤝 At least 75% of peat in the UK is damaged and releasing emissions. Volunteers from SWPP are working hard to restore peatlands in Dartmoor, Exmoor and Cornwall. Restoring Peatlands keeps carbon stored, supports local communities, benefits wildlife and champions these vital ecosystems. Peatlands also protect water quality in rivers and reservoirs by preventing run-off from the land by holding water in a landscape for a longer period of time.
