  • Today we unveiled the beautifully restored brass canopy of Richmond station, one of our most iconic buildings. The Art Deco facade of Richmond has been faithfully returned to how it would have looked in the 1930s, now flanked by 'Double Arrow' flags. Designed by the renowned Chief Architect of the Southern Railway, James Robb Scott, the rebuilt station was opened in 1937. Restoring the station has been a collaborative project between South Western Railway and our partners Network Rail, London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and Railway Heritage Trust. So far, this has included refurbishing the doors, cleaning the Portland stone, replacing the poles and flags, installing the large station lettering, bringing back the brass, and more. By restoring Richmond station, we aim to provide a grander and more welcoming environment for customers, and foster an even greater sense of pride for the local community. In this Railway 200 year, which celebrates two centuries of the railway, we are preserving our wonderful heritage, while working with partners to enhance our network for customers and local communities now and in the future.

  • Today is Non-League Day where non-league clubs all over the country will be throwing open their gates to welcome football fans who would normally be attending Premier League or Championship games. Our colleague James Doe, the founder of #NonLeagueDay and Calogero Scannella, one of the owners of Walton & Hersham FC, got together this week for a friendly game of footballing ‘This or That’. If you’re going to watch a non-league team play today as part of this inspirational event, we hope you have a great day out. • Non-League Day is tomorrow and, all around the country, non-league teams are taking advantage of the international break to welcome new fans to their grounds and show them why non-league football is such an important part of the local community. #NonLeagueDay was started in 2010 by one of our fantastic guards, James Doe, and here he talks about how the event came about, just why it is so important to support non-league football and how taking the train to the game is the greenest way to go. • Meet Calogero Scannella, the world’s youngest football club owner. In 2019, Calogero and a group of schoolfriends bought struggling Walton & Hersham FC when they were just 19 years old. They have since won promotion three times in three seasons. Walton & Hersham is one of hundreds of teams playing on Non-League Day this Saturday 22 March, with 51 games happening on our network alone. Join our support for #NonLeagueDay and feel the pride of cheering your local club – the best and greenest way to get there is by train: https://lnkd.in/eGuM58mz

  • Non-League Day kicks off this Saturday 22 March! As official partners of Non-League Day, we invited keepie-uppie world record holder Dan Magness to show us his tekkers on a train from Waterloo to Andover.    #NonLeagueDay was set up by one of our fantastic guards, James Doe, in 2010. While other fixtures are on pause, we are encouraging our customers to have a go at visiting their local non-league football team this weekend - with 51 happening on our network this year!    Like the railway, there is a non-league club at the heart of local communities across our region, and travelling by train is the best and greenest way to get there!  Learn more about Non-League Day and how to get to the games on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eR5Bsc5u

  • 🌼 We’re blooming delighted to announce that we’re teaming up with South & South East in Bloom to celebrate the railway’s many green-fingered volunteers who help create beautiful and biodiverse stations across our network.   As proud sponsors of the new ‘Celebration Stations’ category, we're inviting railway stations across the south and south east of England to showcase their green spaces - many of which have been adopted by community groups and volunteers who lovingly tend to their stations’ gardens.   With more than 100 SWR stations adopted by nearly 500 local volunteers, these projects bring stations to life through vibrant murals and artwork installations, beautifully maintained planters and flowerbeds.   Enter your stations before the end of March! 🌼 Southeastern Railway Southern Railway   Find out more about our work to improve biodiversity across our network here https://lnkd.in/dh6s5peK

  • Ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow, we're celebrating three of our fantastic women guards: Penny, Emma and Helen. From keeping our customers safe to helping them with their journeys, they discuss why they love their roles and being part of the railway family. Thank you to all our inspiring women colleagues who deliver for our customers with care and commitment, across our network, every single day. We encourage anyone thinking of exploring opportunities as a guard, or any other role in the railway, to get in touch. #WomenInRail #WeAreSWR #IWD25 #AccelerateAction
