25 years ago today, Southdown Aero Services took on an exciting challenge—building a flying replica of the Colditz glider in just six weeks for the Channel 4 documentary Eureka by Windfall Productions. The legendary Derek Piggott piloted the first flight at RAF Odiham, with John Lee capturing the iconic TV shots. For our MD Neil Fripp, the most unforgettable moment was meeting the ex-POWs who had been imprisoned in Colditz. Their stories of resilience and ingenuity were truly inspirational. Since the release of this documentary, we’ve continued to grow and adapt, taking on a wide range of projects across aerospace and engineering. From gliding and light aircraft to F1 and Le Mans chassis, drone technology (including HALE), helicopter safety equipment and now specialising in CAA/EASA Part 145 and CAA Part 21, we’re proud to have played a role in so many areas of aviation. As we look ahead, we remain committed to innovation and quality, building on our 68-year history with the same passion for engineering that made this project so special.
