On the 13th September, SOWEC is hosting a webinar for those who want to understand the Strategic Investment Model (SIM) and its impact in Scotland, as well as those who want to understand opportunities for greater collaboration in unlocking supply chain growth. At the webinar you will hear from those closely involved in the SIM talk about progress to-date, projects being supported and lessons learnt so far.

Scotland has a globally significant offshore wind pipeline, with a number of projects set to deliver £30 billion into Scotland’s economy.   To capitalise on this, Scotland needs to ensure its ports and supply chain are ready. That will require investment and commitments from future customers - the offshore wind projects. However, offshore wind projects take many years to deliver and suppliers are only contracted shortly before construction commences.   Catch 22 - ports need pre-investment to be ready for build out, but contracts come too late to act as a signal.   Scotland's solution is simple - collaboration. The Strategic Investment Model (SIM) involves Scottish offshore wind projects working alongside the Scottish Government and its enterprise agencies collaboratively. Offshore wind projects then work alongside a small group of port and supply chain projects to identify practical routes in which ports and supply chain companies gain confidence and certainty earlier on, opening up much needed investment.   On the 13th September, SOWEC is hosting a webinar for those who want to understand the SIM and its impact in Scotland, as well as those who want to understand opportunities for greater collaboration in unlocking supply chain growth.   At the webinar you will hear from those closely involved in the SIM talk about progress to-date, projects being supported and lessons learnt so far.   To book your place, register here: https://lnkd.in/e8KcU--v

The release of yesterday’s groundbreaking research has been making waves in the industry!   The study, which explores how offshore wind projects can enhance marine biodiversity through various measures, has been picked up by STV Group plc, The Herald Scotland, BBC Good Morning Scotland, Energy Voice, reNEWS - Renewable Energy News, and more.   There is a clear interest in learning more about how Scotland's wind farms can support our rich marine ecosystems while advancing renewable energy.   Follow SOWEC for further updates. #NationalMarineWeek #SOWEC #RenewableEnergy

This National Marine Week, we support SOWEC's newly published research on Scottish offshore wind projects enhancing biodiversity 💚 Duncan Smart, our Senior Planning & Environmental Policy Manager and Chair of the CEMNID Project Steering Group, said: “Offshore wind will be the backbone of our clean energy future, but we also have to ensure it works for nature too. We’re really excited by the outcomes of this year-long collaborative project which provides practical outputs to support the sustainable development of offshore wind as well as recommendations to steer policy development." Thank you to all the 19 'progress' projects that came together on Tuesday for a Strategic Investment Model (SIM) 'progress' workshop to discuss how the SIM can help each of them move forward. These 19 projects were assessed by developers as being of strategic importance to the delivery of Scotland’s offshore wind pipeline. This event was a key milestone and demonstrated continued support of the collaboration achieved through the SIM.    Projects had an opportunity to update offshore wind developers and partners such as Crown Estate Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, South of Scotland Enterprise, The Scottish National Investment Bank, UK Infrastructure Bank and The Scottish Government about their plans.   The UK Government announcement on the budget increase for AR6 further underpins the need for early stage investment in the supply chain. Over the coming months, commercial discussions will continue looking at how these projects could be supported. The SIM aims to support structured collaboration to unlock infrastructure investment.
