I was just reminded by another user on LinkedIn that it's almost 2 years to the day since Virgin Orbit's launch out of Spaceport Cornwall on 9th January 2023. I guess because we spend our time looking forward not back 👀 However it remains an important milestone for the project and the country. The UK's first sovereign satellite launch, and the culmination of so much work from teams across Cornwall and the UK to achieve something extraordinary 🙌 Two years on Spaceport Cornwall is working with new partners in both Space and Future Air, and the capability the team proved on 9th Jan 23 has set us up for an exciting future. Thanks as always to Cornwall Council for backing the project before it was 'cool', and believing in it's power to inspire a whole generation in Cornwall. Thanks to UK Space Agency, Civil Aviation Authority and Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom for providing the technical assistance and helping steer the course - and the job's not over yet! 😉 Thanks to team members current and past, those who will join us in the future, and to all of you who have supported us from near and far. Our Space Systems Operations Facility (SSOF) is now a hive of activity, housing some of Cornwall's most innovative companies. We welcomed SpaceAM in December: pioneers of ultra-lightweight, ultra-low cost aerospace design solutions. They join Intelligent AI Limited, Halo, Avanti Communications, Cornwall Space Cluster, Blue Abyss Global, Hybrock, Slingshot Aerospace, Space AI, KISPE, Space Professionals Partnership Ltd, Space Engine Systems, Eurosoft Systems Ltd and DronePrep. It was amazing to host Anna Pearce at Spaceport Cornwall during her SPINternship. In her final year of her Business and Entrepreneurship degree at the University of Exeter, Anna has helped to devise key strategies on the reporting of social value and stakeholder engagement with sustainability practices. Her work was incredible. This year, we’ve been proud to create pathways for the next generation of space professionals.
