Baby Boy’s Burgers Takes the Win! 🏆🍔💜 We’re thrilled to share that Baby Boy’s Burgers has scooped the YorkMix People’s Choice Award for Best Street Food and Takeaway! Founder and owner Jack Jenner, affectionately known as “Baby Boy,” is a familiar face here at SPARK. Having worked across nine different vendors, Jack’s journey from starting in the kitchen at 16 to head chef at 19, and now, at 22, running his own award-winning venture is inspiring. Jack shares, “We didn’t expect to win at all. This award is a testament to our loyal customers and the strong community we work so hard to build. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who voted – long live the burg!” Since opening at SPARK in January 2024, Jack and his team have worked tirelessly to bring exceptional food to our community. NEW ARTIST 🎨 We're thrilled to introduce the latest resident artist in our MAKE space—Dr Becca Drake! A multi-talented researcher, poet, and printmaker with a fascinating background. In 2024, she founded House Martin Press, a small press that showcases York's vibrant scene of emergent visual and experimental poetry. As an active member of York's grassroots arts community, House Martin published the collaborative work ‘Black Sheep Vol.1’, launching it at York Zine Fest in July and The Arts Barge in August. Becca’s own debut poetry pamphlet is out with Guillemot press at the end of this year! Becca is incredibly talented, and we can’t wait to see what she creates in our space. beccadrake.weebly.com

This weekend Sally Golightly and I facilitated a creative leadership workshop as part of Think Circle - a fantastic women's leadership program The Coders Guild are delivering. The day was an opportunity for participants to connect, this group will hopefully go on to become a powerful peer network, supporting each other long after the course is completed. Using creative methods, the group had time and space to deepen their understanding of the brilliant course content being lead by Emma Brassington. It was a wonderful day in a great creative space provided by Spark York C.I.C .
