NatWest Group partners with Sparta Global to secure technology talent from diverse backgrounds and support the continued growth of its One Bank Mortgages (OBM) platform. This video follows some of the 12 Spartans specialising in Software Engineering, Test Automation, and DevOps who were selected to join NatWest’s OBM team. Those joining were made up of women, those first in their families to go to university, and individuals from minority backgrounds. These consultants secured the opportunity on attitude, aptitude and potential alone – not prior technology experience or educational background. Since joining the team, they have converted to full-time employees at NatWest to continue their personal and professional growth – with two selected for the future leaders programme. Our CEO, David Rai, says; “Successfully hiring today’s generation of early career talent requires an understanding of their attributes, an empathy for their diverse values, and a management style that engages their interests and preferences. NatWest and the OBM team understand this ethos and together have created an exceptional environment for emerging talent to thrive and contribute to future organisational success”. 🔉 If you're interested in discussing your emerging talent needs, contact us at contactus@spartaglobal.com Watch the full video here | https://lnkd.in/esmDc94x

Yesterday we welcomed a select group of former and serving police officers to the Sparta Global office to discuss our plans to reskill ex-police for careers in Business. These individuals understand first-hand how police career changers can bring significant value to in-demand business teams, but also spoke openly about the challenges around communicating their diverse skillset and applying this knowledge to new working environments. Some key takeaways: ➡️Police simply aren't aware of opportunities outside of the force and how their unique experiences set them up for success in a host of business environments. How do we do better at promoting opportunity for ex-police? ➡️Getting into a new career is incredibly difficult without support and guidance. One of our attendees spent 15 months applying for 100 jobs, but was given the opportunity to interview for just 4 jobs. Employers must adapt their mindset when it comes to employment criteria, prioritising skills over experience. But how do we support ex-police in communicating their abilities too? ➡️Employers looking to hire and develop ex-police must prioritise ticking the box for fulfilment. Police greatly value their sense of purpose and finding this in new careers is important. ➡️People often leave the police because of a lack of progression or promotion opportunities. If employers can provide a clear way forward and process for personal development and progression - they will get the best of ex-police. ➡️Community and camaraderie is a key pillar of the police and for many leaving the force there is a sense of loneliness when approaching a new career and new working environment. Ex-police employers need to champion support and mentoring to ease this transition. A huge thank you to all who attended!

Today is #AdaLovelaceDay, an annual event to celebrate and raise awareness of the contributions of women to STEM fields. It is named after mathematician and computer science pioneer Ada Lovelace. ----- 👉🏻 Who is Ada Lovelace? Born in England on December 10, 1815, Ada was the daughter of the famous poet Lord George Byron and his wife, Lady Anne Byron. When she was 17, Ada met mathematician and inventor Charles Babbage at a town party and was fascinated by his Difference Engine - an early version of the calculator. In 1843, Babbage was developing the Analytical Engine, a more complicated version of the Difference Engine. He asked Lovelace to translate French text from his engineer into English. Lovelace not only translated the notes but added her own, signing them “A.A.L.” Some of those notes compared the design of the Analytical Engine to how weaving machines worked. Weaving machines follow patterns to make a complete design, and Lovelace imagined that the engine could also follow patterns—or codes—not only to calculate numbers, but to form letters, too. Because of her advanced way of thinking, she’s often considered the first computer programmer. In fact, in 1979, the U.S. Department of Defense named a new computer language “Ada” in her honour. ----- At Sparta Global we want to give women the skills and opportunities to become the next Ada Lovelace, the next pioneer, trailblazer in tech. This is why we launched the Athena Academy - our women only Academy training stream that offers passionate women the chance to learn from and alongside a sisterhood of support.
