It has been a very productive few days here at Spectro | Jet-Care raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support - we baked, ate way too much cake, judged our Baking Competition, won by one of our Senior Lab Technician's, Amanda Burton, and held a prize draw to win a huge box of chocolates, won by Daniela Moise, one of our Lab Shift Team Leaders. We are very proud to support this amazing charity and so incredibly glad to say that we raised a fabulous total of £1358! What a brilliant end to the week. 👏 🎉

Three Monaco Yacht Show takeaways- 1) Business seems to be good across all engineering and re-fit sectors. 2) Superyachts are readily available for every pocket, berth and desire and as always plenty to look at - both Swans and Gargoyles. I noticed an abundance of design enthusiasm evident in both directions too! 3) The 24mtr yacht built by Bering in 2017/8, “M/Y Beyond Capricorn” took my eye. A stylish and timeless expedition yacht. Her spotless “as new” condition a credit to her Capt/Eng and crew. We had an interesting discussion about oil analysis (which they carry out diligently) too and how ever more critical it is the smaller the vessel, as the smaller their weather window when/if/heaven forbid an engine/gearbox/shaft failure in bad weather occurs. Note: The likelihood of mechanical failure is greatly reduced if you use Spectro laboratory oil analysis... Worth mentioning. Also with a smaller crew there is of course a higher task load. Thus robust and timely laboratory oil analysis really is an extra hand that does not need feeding or a berth! (I may have mentioned the merits of oil analysis earlier). Add to the mix our strategic partners IDEA Data Solutions GmbH with their new PMS for smaller yachts and it’s the perfect triangle of support. 4) Lastly the engine room pics from “M/Y Beyond Capricorn- that’s a sweet Cummins under that white lid. One of two (nice engine room layout too) but what’s that shiny thing in the corner? Not an ice cream maker… it’s a vital piece of equipment - an Alfa Laval MIB Separator. It’s not total common knowledge that oil and hydraulic fluid cannot be used straight ‘out of the tin’ as they will fail cleanliness standards and can quickly (and do) cause engine and machinery problems. The misconception that an engine room is a grubby place belongs in history- it’s a hi-brow technical space requiring total (food standard almost) cleanliness and attention when choosing, using and handling oils and hydraulic fluids. Equal care is required when sampling them to ensure perfect sample integrity. How would you rate your blood test results if decanted in a dirty ham jar with a masking tape lid. (yes really…). Another Monaco Yacht Show is almost over- old and new friends well met, pivotal meetings taken and alliances made, reinforced and sculpted. That’s just what a trade show is for. Try doing that remotely…. It won’t be remotely the same outcome. See you at METS? We are exhibiting. #laboratoryoilanalysis #spectrojetcare #oilsampling #ideadatasolutions #monacoyachtshow #oilcleanliness #hydraulicfluidcleanliness

I should have headed this “Eventually” not “Seriously” as UK to Monaco took 33hrs due to air traffic control failure- Marseille. Hmm… No matter, we are here to get very serious about a subject which many might consider frivolous - superyachts are anything but. As in the F1 industry, here are the funds to drive technology forward, improve sustainability across the whole marine industry (commercial marine especially), and let’s not forget the superyacht industry as a whole is valued at over $20bn and expected to reach $53bn by 2028, with a CAGR of 16.10% over that period. Oh… and it employs 165,000 people directly. That’s nothing to scoff at. This is SERIOUS business. What is Spectro’s role in this very serious future? Good point.. we are really good (quite probably the best) at laboratory analysis etc. all well known (and dealing with the past). But what else? As a ‘gatekeeper to the future’ - yes really. Imagine blue light first responders had a way to prevent road accidents, how amazing that would be. Just a quiet word in the ear of the vehicle operator and everyone is safe. That’s laboratory fluid analysis. A quiet word in the ear of the chief engr to lead them out of danger. Then comes the even more “serious” part where the quality and integrity of the science behind that quiet word in the ear of the engineer really, really matters. Why did that happen? What was the cause? Where do we act? How do we prevent it getting worse or even close to a “repair” (aka accident) situation? So, many serious questions about such an entertaining subject.. I am at the Monaco Yacht Show to maybe help with some answers to those questions. I am with our strategic partners IDEA Data Solutions GmbH in the Darse Sud tent DS67 and around and about the show. (btw it’s raining and we are all getting “seriously” wet☔️) #spectrojetcare #laboratoryanalysis #sampleanalysis #ideadatasolutions #probablythebestlaboratoryananlysisserviceintheworld #oilanalysis #hydraulicanalysis #filteranalysis

It’s that time of year again where we tear ourselves away from Autumn wind and rain and head back into summer at the Monaco Yacht Show. (25th to 28th). 22C/71F and clear blue skies. (No sympathy please). High stakes as usual in Monte Carlo at the Casino and in the marina too as there are still a few (ahem ..very few) yachts who like to gamble with poor quality laboratory oil analysis. Risking it all on a RED report and always losing. “Spectro | Jet-Care…… When it comes to Oil analysis ~ there’s no better care”. We will be exhibiting with our strategic partners IDEA Data Solutions GmbH (DS67 DARSE SUD) and I will be reporting daily on the sights, scenes and what’s going on in superyacht city downtown in Monaco. Oh yes and I’ll be in the Blue Lady in Antibes on Tuesday eve too. (Working ;-)
