THE Spiney the Diney Challenge has begun!!! From 25th October until the end of November our CEO, Lawrence Cowan, has challenged you all to sponsor him - please! 💟 For every £100 he raises he will dress as Spiney the Diney for a day! YES, that means he'll be going to meetings, travelling on the train and walking his kids to school all dressed as our favourite dinosaur mascot🦖🦖🦖 To sponsor Lawrence head on over to his JustGiving page https://lnkd.in/ehPwzsK2 🗣️Lawrence says, "The reason I’m doing this is to make sure that SBH Scotland’s vital services are still here next year. Getting funding is extremely difficult just now and we need your help. SBH Scotland helps people with complex disabilities feel unstoppable. From the very moment they are born kids with spina bifida and hydrocephalus have to fight. Before their first proper snuggles with mum they get taken away for surgery. As they grow up, they have to fight to be heard, understood and respected. SBH Scotland offers support and spaces where they can be themselves. Where they can be proud of who they are. Where parents can just be parents for a moment."

🌍It's World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day and we celebrate in raising awareness for these complex disabilities which affect so many across the globe. Our Chairperson, Dr Margo Whiteford was happy to be representing Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland at the 30th International Conference which is now underway in Kuala Lumpur organised by the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus . 🗣️Margo says, "Around 300 people from 21 countries are attending the conference and there is an impressive line up of expert speakers from all over the world. Yesterday there were updates from 12 different Spina Bifida organisations including SBH Scotland, a very interesting session on genetics and in the afternoon there were sessions on prenatal surgery for Spina Bifida and the optimum obstetric care for women with Spina Bifida during pregnancy. It was also a great opportunity to meet up with old friends and make new friends from the worldwide SBH community!" We look forward to hearing more about it from Margo when she gets back and in the meantime thank all of those showing their support for SBH Scotland and the families we support.

And after 2 Halloween parties in one weekend our amazing support team thought someone had definitely cast an exhaustion spell on them 😂 Our children and young people however remained as unstoppable as ever - movies, mess, food and plenty of hocus pocus. 💟Thank you to each and everyone of you who continues to donate to SBH Scotland - you're ensuring family groups and youth groups like these can continue and that's a special type of magic all on it's own.

Hold on to your hats! 🤠 We raised the roof at our Ladies Lunch on Sunday, and raised a whopping £30,000! 👏 It was SO MUCH FUN! 🤩💃🍽🥂🎼 Thank you to everyone who joined us at The Hilton Glasgow for a fabulous afternoon of food, fizz, fun and games! Hosted by the amazing Edward Reid, this year's country and western themed lunch offered plenty of excitement with live entertainment from the Theatre School of Scotland, music by emerging country music singer Erin Ponsonby and line-dancing guests stars from Maggies Rock N Rodeo! 🎤 🕺 We want to thank our sponsors Allied Surveyors Scotland and Make Believe Events for their support. One lucky lady took home a beautiful diamond necklace worth £2,995 after a Diamond Draw, kindly sponsored by Chisholm Hunter 💎. Thank you to Porrelli for providing the delicious ice cream our guests enjoyed for dessert 🍨 🤤. We also want to say a big thank you to Melanie Chambers for sharing her experience of having a daughter with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Melanie spoke from the heart about what the charity has meant to her and husband Cy, and her daughter Ella, now almost 21, joined her at the event. 💜 Deborah Roe, our Director of Fundraising, said: 🗣“Our annual Ladies Lunch is a highly anticipated event, and we work hard to ensure it’s a fabulous, fun-filled affair. “Everyone had a wonderful time while raising much needed funds for SBH Scotland - we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our sponsors and guests! The money raised will enable us to ensure families affected by complex disabilities know they’re not alone in coping. Our specialist services include financial support, health check clinics, counselling and support groups and each year we need to raise £1.4 million to make sure they continue. “We rely heavily on fundraising to reach our annual targets and events such as the Ladies Lunch are crucial to make sure we can continue to be there for families when they need us most. We’re incredibly grateful to all our generous sponsors and everyone who attended and donated.”
