"From the first day I became paralysed and told I might never walk again, I knew that one day I would complete the London Marathon. Whether I ran, walked or wheeled my way over that line I didn’t care, as long as I finished." 🏅 Meet Tommy, our first introduction to one of the amazing Team SIA members who will be taking part in the London Marathon on 27 April. Tommy sustained a SCI back in 2022, was a patient at Stoke Mandeville and has from those first movements with his physio team, he has since completed 10k and half marathon runs. Now he has his sights set on London! 🏃 He continues, "My journey has been long and hard with really low lows but even higher highs also, and for me, when the moment comes that I finish the London Marathon, that is the moment that I will close the door behind me and leave this chapter of my life as a thing of the past." Read Tommy's full interview with our FORWARD magazine: https://lnkd.in/eTWE_jJx Tommy has been training hard through the winter and is ready to take on London next month. He has already raised over £2500 for SIA and continues to smash his targets https://lnkd.in/ebrfNrpK Go Tommy! See you in London 👏 👏 #LondonMarathon #SpinalCordInjury #TeamSIA #FundraisingFriday

On #FundraisingFriday we are sending our heartfelt thanks to Sharandeep who last Sunday completed her first 10k run at Dorney Lake in Surrey 🥇 Shardeep was running in memory of her father Harvinder who sadly passed two years after sustaining a SCI. She said, "Last year we lost a very special man who powered through, battling a spinal cord injury, having lived a very active and fitness focussed life. Dad always amazed us with how long he could run on a cross trainer and was inspirational to non runners like me." "It was thanks to spinal cord injury specialists that we able to share a few more special moments and memories with him. A spinal cord injury truly turn lives upside down, so I am dedicating my first 10k run to Dad and raising money for SIA." We are so grateful to Shardeep for choosing to support us, and with thanks to the incredible generosity of her supports she has raised £3,200 for SIA 💙 This money will help us to support more people with spinal cord injury like her father to live fulfilled lives after injury. Any further donations can be given to https://lnkd.in/eDRWUHfd #ThankYou #Fundraising #SpinalCordInjury

Not only are women with spinal cord injury often denied basic breast and cervical screenings due to inaccessible equipment but they also face extra challenges with menstrual health and menopause, an increased risk of pelvic organ prolapse and overall inadequate support. Why should they settle for less? SIA are fighting for change - ensuring women with spinal cord injury get the healthcare they need and deserve. Sign our petition (and share)👇 https://lnkd.in/eTCHNnkv We're also asking people to write to the Health and Social Care Select Committee so that we can trigger an inquiry into health inequalities faced by disabled women.
