About us
Spinlock is an independent and innovative company, widely acknowledged as the world expert in ropeholding. Based in Cowes, UK, the 'Home of Yachting', Spinlock has over thirty years experience of designing and manufacturing rope holding equipment for sailing boats, from dinghies up to the largest superyachts. Spinlock’s cleats, clutches and jammers hold ropes from 2mm to 32mm in diameter and loads up to 12,000kg. The expert skills of our Special Projects Team are valued by America’s Cup, Volvo Ocean Race and other leading racing teams, Open 60’s and superyacht captains for the originality of their custom rope handling solutions. Spinlock's Deckware Series includes the award winning Deckvest - the world leading lifejacket harness. Where there had been no significant technical or aesthetic change for over thirty years Spinlock developed a completely new and personal lifejacket harness solution that was attractive and comfortable to wear. Active campaigning by Spinlock about the Deckvest and the importance of wearing your own lifejacket harness has helped encourage a much more positive attitude towards sea safety. Power or sail, amateur, professional or commercial, wearing a well-fitting personal lifejacket has now become the norm. Since 2010 we have been proud to supply special Deckvest versions to the International Certified Instructors of the highly regarded Royal Yachting Association. Other personal protection equipment widely used at top races and regattas are Spinlock Performance Safety Lines, Mast Pro Harness, ZERO Buoyancy Aid and the award winning lightweight lifejacket, the Deckvest LITE.

Fixing offshore wind turbines in the middle of the North Sea - Julian’s job is anything but ordinary! For the past 5½ years, Julian has been troubleshooting wind turbines at Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund and Gode Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind farms, ensuring they keep spinning and delivering renewable energy. His job involves solving electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and software issues. His work is as challenging as it is rewarding. 💬 “This is the kind of job you wake up excited for – one where every day brings something different. The exciting thing is being in the middle of the North Sea and going to the wind farms in different ways, the most exciting is by helicopter, also on CTVs with the waves and the sea, but the simple fact of being on top of a wind turbine and watching the sunset is amazing; no matter how many years you do it, it never gets old.” Julian's work has completely transformed his life. Not only does he get to do something exciting that he loves, where he can enjoy the freedom to travel and explore new projects, but he also contributes to the environment together with his colleagues from all over the world. 💬 “Every role within offshore wind is essential – whether in the office, on-site, or behind the scenes. From engineers and technicians to those ensuring a safe and efficient working environment, it’s a collective effort that drives the transition to renewable energy.” #orstedmoment

I QUIT!!! Now I have your attention 😉 I once quit a role onboard because I didn't like how they handled safety. If you've worked at sea, or even if you've just seen the news in the last 12 months, you know how quickly things can go wrong. That's why we have safety systems and processes – to mitigate risk wherever possible. I joined a 60m charter yacht after working on a prestigious 130m+ vessel, excited to progress my career. But things felt off from the start. Not only was the crew in disarray – disconnected, disinterested, and at each other's throats – they also didn’t take safety seriously. The vessel was poorly maintained. The senior crew didn't seem to understand basic safety processes. There was no permit-to-work system, which was shocking. When working aloft, radars and the ship's whistle weren't tagged out. I even witnessed the Chief Officer allowing a day worker to climb over the safety rail with no harness. My doubts grew. Did I want to be associated with a vessel like this? The final straw...the safety harnesses looked ancient and frayed. When I asked about their last inspection, the response was, 'Never, you don't actually have to do those things.' That was it. My decision was made. The last 12 months have seen some tragic incidents onboard vessels, that said, not all are related to safety procedures not being followed. However, a vessel that disregards safety doesn't deserve good crew. After three weeks and seeing yet another safety issue, I headed to the bridge and asked them to book my flight home. This was just before the Atlantic crossing, I didn't feel safe and I didn't want to cross the Atlantic on a vessel I didn't trust, with crew I didn't trust. Crew safety is paramount. While senior crew are responsible for implementing safety procedures, they only work if all crew take them seriously and follow them. Never be afraid to flag safety concerns. A vessel that dismisses your concerns without a proper explanation is a vessel you don't want to work on. Pic taken on a vessel that (clearly) takes safety seriously! 🛥️ #safety #yachtcrew #yachtie #yachtingindustry
