New research from Sport England has found that the annual social value of community sport and physical activity is £107.2 billion. In partnership with State of Life, Sheffield Hallam University and The Manchester Metropolitan University, Sport England's research highlights the profound social and economic benefits of sport and physical activity for communities across England. This value is made up of 😁 £96.7bn in annual wellbeing value for adults and young people taking part and volunteering in sport and physical activity 🪙 £10.5bn in wider savings to the health and social care system a year. 🔦 72% of women change their outdoor activity routines in the winter. Returning for its second year, This Girl Can’s Let’s Lift the Curfew movement challenges the idea of a curfew during winter months which prevents women getting out and enjoying getting active. They hosted a flagship run in Manchester which featured a glow-in-the-dark display of UV-lit footsteps which light up the ground with words such as 'vulnerable', 'anxious', and 'afraid,' spotlighting the feelings women experience when getting active outdoors after the clocks go back. The ACE Programme is a charity aimed at helping increase participation of young individuals from African and Caribbean communities within the game of cricket, backed by Sport England. Black History Month shines a light on the importance of remembering and cherishing the rich cricketing tradition that past African and Caribbean players have embedded within the game.
