The potential of sports to drive positive social change within communities is immeasurable. Yet, it remains largely untapped, with ample room for growth. Sports clubs, often deeply embedded in local communities, possess a valuable resource – physical space. They also boast dedicated fan and member bases, ripe for mobilisation towards greater societal good with the right impetus and motivation. Moreover, many clubs count among their ranks ready-made ambassadors in their players and senior staff, who can leverage their influence to champion community projects and offer direct support. The era of COVID-19 bore witness to the emergence of numerous sports-led initiatives, with high-profile figures like Marcus Rashford leading the way. Sport Local Action seeks to build on this momentum and foster a shift in attitudes. Sport Local Action is being established with the goal of enhancing communities by assisting sports clubs in acquiring knowledge, making meaningful connections, sharing best practices, and executing projects affordably and efficiently. This support will be administered through the creation of a non-profit membership organisation. Over the coming weeks Sport Local Action will come to life and will focus on unleashing the power of sport for transformative change. If you are passionate about sport and its potential for doing good things in communities please do connect. We'd love to talk to you as we build to see if we can work together and create something brilliant.

This is incredible again from Norwich City Football Club for #WorldMentalHealthDay. I'm so proud that sport is thinking about the subject of mental health so much more. https://lnkd.in/eD4WQ2vu #sportforcommunitygood

Another collaboration from Sport Local Action that aims to improve communities. We believe, quite simply, that nobody should miss out on playing or watching sport because of money. So we're going to do something about it. Alongside WiSH (Wimbledon in Sporting History) we aim to create the model for a Sports Bank in Merton, Southwest London, and roll it out from there. If you interested in getting involved, please message xavier@sportlocalaction.org We are keen to hear from people all over the UK as we will be keeping one eye on roll out as well as creating the robust model in Merton.

Sport Local Action and Inspire 2 Ignite are collaborating to build the ‘Supporting Change’ programme, aimed at equipping athletes with the life and career skills needed for success beyond their sporting careers. The first workshop, led by Inspire 2 Ignite CIC CEO Sam Squire and Sport Local Action founder Xavier Wiggins, BEM, was a major milestone. Diverse perspectives from various sports were gathered to identify challenges and brainstorm solutions. Stay tuned for updates and contact Xavier at xavier@sportlocalaction.org if you’d like to contribute to shaping this transformative initiative. #SupportingChange #SportLocalAction #Inspire2Ignite Thanks to Steve Sallis Saleem Akanbi Gary B. Callum Langley Isaac Omirin Stephen Quinn #HarveySteel for all the help so far.

On Monday we take the first steps in the latest Sport Local Action project, in partnership with the incredible SLA member, Inspire 2 Ignite CIC, as we hold our first programme co-design workshop. sUPporting change is a ground breaking initiative to equip individuals in sports with essential life skills for success beyond the game. The three pillars of the programme will be "EMPOWER", "INSPIRE" and "SUPPORT". We will welcome sports people, sporting alumni, charities, non-profits, businesses and anyone with a passion for supporting our athletes to flourish outside the game. If you'd like to get involved, drop me a line.
