How and why does Sported create social impacts for young people through community groups delivering sport and physical activity?    We’ve today launched our Theory of Change, an animated illustration of just how Sported underpins these organisations, helping young people to thrive.    Driven by external insights that explore our formula to make a huge difference as a charity, our new video shows:   - Why sport matters to young people and why it is vital that we help them overcome barriers to participation, in tandem with surmounting the obstacles that they face within society. - How grassroots clubs and groups increase young people’s participation in sport as well as using it as an impactful conduit to transform lives. - Sported’s approach to helping these organisations- and their leaders - to become more effective and sustainable, and to positively address numerous social issues. Watch the video 👇 - and come talk to us about it.

Sported has reached a milestone by taking its total in funds awarded since its inception past the £10 million mark. Since we were founded 16 years ago by London 2012 bid chief Sir Keith Mills to create a legacy from hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the charity has grown to support almost one million young people annually by providing resources and grants to nearly 5000 grassroots and community groups around the UK. The £10m line was reached with a £1000 grant to Wolverhampton-based Just Ramps which provides skatepark activities for all abilities. Sir Keith, Founder and Patron of Sported, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the impact that Sported has made right across the UK over the last 10 years, helping thousands of community sports clubs provide support for hundreds of thousands of young people. “Sported has been instrumental in distributing £10m to these clubs, changing the lives of young people and making a real difference to local communities.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eMrR6G5D

So many communities around the UK have benefitted from our Barclays UK Community Football Fund, widening opportunities and offering access to all the social benefits that sport delivers for young people. As a charity, we love working with partners who want to create real change.

Anna the recently qualified female coach doing great job, alongside the team Terry, Jimmy and others . We are loving the Barclays programme at Sported and seeing the difference it’s making !

Spending the day at Inch Park Community Sports Club - helped by Sported to become more sustainable in its work to provide sport and other opportunities to more young people in a deprived area of Edinburgh. Clubs like these face challenges in running their facilities in a way that is financially prudent while keeping the doors open as a true community asset. But they are key in delivering real social impacts on the ground.

We agree with the mascots! It's a win for football on every level that Barclays UK have renewed their support of the beautiful game. Sported has loved working with their team - led by the amazing Katy Bowman and Sarah O. - on the Barclays Community Football Fund, improving access and lowering barriers for almost 100,000 young people across the UK in 2024 so far. Weights And cakes CIC are an all inclusive, all welcoming Powerlifting Club part of the Nissan / Sported Possibilities Project. They provide a fun and supportive club for young people and adults who want to train but aren’t keen on mainstream gym environments. Fab meet with Judith Cummins MP, Deputy Speaker of the House, and outgoing Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group after 8 impactful years. She’s truly doing the city of Bradford proud with her dedication and leadership. We had a great discussion about the work of BARA (British Asian Rugby Association C.I.C), SCAR (Sport Campaign Against Racism), and Sported and how they contribute in addressing the urgent need to tackle racism, Islamophobia, and the growing issue of far-right extremism. Through our efforts, sport plays a crucial part in bringing communities together, breaking down barriers, and fostering unity and understanding in today’s climate. #Bradford #TacklingRacism #RugbyLeague #RugbyUnion #Sport #UniteThroughSport #SportForChange #BARA #SCAR #Sported #EndIslamophobia #StopFarRightExtremism

Over summer, we held a brilliant community day & BBQ alongside Sported & Superdrug and what a day it was! The atmosphere was incredible as families and young people came together to celebrate, connect, and enjoy some well-deserved fun. A key highlight of the day was the football tournament, which saw both young people and families eagerly take part. The matches were full of energy, showcasing amazing teamwork and a true sense of healthy competition. We were also thrilled to collaborate with Superdrug, who brought their iconic pink double-decker bus to the event. As part of the festivities, they offered a self-care experience, providing hair makeovers and skincare treatments for the young people. It was fantastic to see so many taking a moment for a bit of pampering and walking away with a boost of confidence. After the games and self-care activities, we took time to celebrate not only the participants of the tournament but also the incredible achievements of our young people over the summer. From sports programs to creative workshops, their hard work and dedication really stood out. Awards were handed out, and smiles filled the room as we recognised their efforts. We wrapped up the day with a delicious BBQ, serving over 50 families and young people freshly grilled food. It was the perfect way to close the event, with everyone sharing food, laughter, and great company. The day was all about celebrating community spirit and recognizing all that our young people have achieved. Here’s to many more days like this! A huge thank you to Hackney Quest Jellot , Shorditch Youth FC and Pearson street adventure playground for all participating and attending our event.
