In financial advice, no two days are alike. You might spend one day in meetings, another completing admin and business strategy, and another working with clients to meet their goals. At the Academy, we train people to embrace this variety with confidence and adaptability. Dan’s journey is a fantastic example of how resilience, self-belief, and the right support can unlock incredible potential. During Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we celebrate the unique strengths of neurodivergent individuals. At the SJP Financial Adviser Academy, we’re committed to providing a structured, supportive learning environment where everyone can succeed. Thanks Dan Buckland for sharing your story on this inspiring episode of Financial Planner Life with Sam Oakes. #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek
"You’ll never amount to anything." A teacher once told me that. Maybe you’ve heard something similar. It’s Neurodiversity Week, and this episode of the Financial Planner Life podcast hit close to home. Recently, I was diagnosed with high-functioning ADHD, and my conversation with financial planner Dan Buckland really resonated with me. Dan has ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia (which he describes as dyslexia with numbers). Growing up, he was also told by teachers that he’d “never amount to anything.” Like so many neurodivergent people, the traditional education system left him with limiting beliefs about what he could achieve. But here’s the thing some of the most successful people I know are a bit neuro-spicy. 🌶️🧠 The real journey is about self-reflection, acceptance, and learning to work with ourselves, not against ourselves. It’s about understanding our strengths and building systems that support us. But it’s also about finding the right environment, one that doesn’t see neurodiversity as a barrier but as an asset. That’s why Dan’s story is so powerful. With self-belief, discipline, and the right support, he built a career as a financial planner despite the doubts he once had. And with St. James's Place Financial Adviser Academy guiding him, he found a structure that worked for his learning style, strengths, and ambitions. This episode is for anyone who has ever thought... "Maybe I'm not wired for success." You are. You just need the right environment and belief in yourself.

It's #InternationalWomensDay! Today is about celebrating how far we have come, while also reflecting on how much further we have to go when it comes to closing the gender advice gap in financial services. 👏 Amanda Redman, SJP Partner and author of best-selling book, Dare to be Fair, shares her insights into the importance of women taking control of their finances from the perspective of a financial adviser. The industry average of female financial advisers is only 18% - which has a number of detrimental consequences, not just for advisers, but clients and society at large. Read this week's Career Change Newsletter article to learn more about why we need female financial advisers.
