🔔 WEEKLY MARKET UPDATE This week there are some concerns regarding European supply after the end of Ukrainian gas transit are easing, with UK LNG regasification capacity up 11% on the year. European storage is expected to enter the winter 6bcm below 2023 levels due to lower volumes in LNG storage. This raises some concerns about significant storage withdrawals due to the La Nina weather phenomenon which could further tighten global gas markets in 2025. #energy #LNG #gas

🔔 WEEKLY MARKET UPDATE This week Azerbaijan have reached an agreement with a BP-led consortium to develop a new gas field in the Caspian Sea, with production expected to begin in 2025, boosting exports to Europe. Greece has a new LNG terminal that has come online, with the capacity to export 5.5bcm of LNG annually to Central and Southeast Europe. The Labour government has extended the free allocation period for the UK ETS until 2026, providing bearish signals for UK carbon and in turn fossil-fuelled premiums. France's ageing nuclear fleet could be at higher risk of outages due to "modulation", where the output of the facility is ramped up and down. 🔔 MARKET UPDATE This week we have seen the bulk of Norwegian maintenance ease as the majority of maintenance ends without further extensions. While robust storage levels in Europe (93%) and the UK (57%) combined with weak demand is helping to provide a limit to the upside. Gas markets continue to direct baseload pricing and set the market price for UK baseload despite the significant expansion of renewables. The UK is projected to contribute 74% of Europe's floating offshore wind capacity by 2030, as reported by WindEurope. European capacity is currently only 208 MW and the UK aims to add 1471 MW, primarily driven by the 560 MW Green Volt project. This project received a contract to supply 400MW at £139.93/MWh. This project, expected to be Europe’s largest commercial-scale floating wind farm by 2029, will supply power to offshore oil and gas platforms and the UK grid. The growth of the UK’s floating offshore wind capacity will bolster its renewable energy capacity and reinforce its energy security, expanding the available area for the UK to build new wind installations.
