Great piece on on BBC News Breakfast showcasing the benefits of local theatre. Amazing work Joshua McTaggart from the Theatres Trust. Nina picked up the difficulties in finding local productions that Stagely Ltd looks to solve! We've experienced the issues discovering local theatre that's why we founded Stagely Ltd - an app to help people discover theatre - helping people find theatre where it is more accessible both financially and geographically to create new young and diverse audiences and crew for theatres across the UK.

Stagely Ltd analysed nearly 400 professional and amateur/community theatre productions of pantomimes to find the UKs most performed pantomime 2024. 👑 Cinderella was the UK’s most performed pantomime in 2024. 🎭 Urban productions where more likely to incorporate diverse music, pop culture, and current themes to enhance accessibility and relevance, like Pinocchio at Stratford East. ✨ 20% of amateur pantomime productions appeared to use AI to enhance their production posters 🎭 Local productions, such as Ya Wee Dickie McWhittington in Kirkcaldy, took the classic Dick Whittington tale and gave it a distinctly Scottish flair Stagely Ltd wants to bridge the gap between urban and regional theatre, showcasing diverse productions and celebrating regional gems. #theatre #pantomime

A fantastic thread from David Reece on The Stage Media Company Ltd UK ticketing survey. Local accessibility and diversity are crucial for the future of theatre, it's one of the reasons we founded Stagely Ltd. 📍Regional theatres have huge community value as Patrick Gracey points out. We believe it's where future audiences, cast and crew and nurtured. 🎫 Although Pay What You Can lowers the financial barrier to theatre attendance, lower prices alone does not make more people aware of live theatre. We believe that theatres that relying on print, owned media and CRM are only reaching an existing audience. 🎭Strong link between early exposure to the arts and lifetime engagement h/t Robbie Kings. Another reason why we support Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre's "Theatre for Every Child" campaign.
The Stage's 2024 Ticketing Survey: A Stark Portrait of Theatre's Accessibility Challenge The latest theatre ticketing data reveals a concerning trend that goes beyond mere numbers. While top ticket prices have surged by 15%, the cheapest tickets have actually decreased by 1.5% - is this a microcosm of broader economic inequalities playing out in our cultural spaces? Patrick Gracey aptly notes in his recent piece, ticket prices are just one aspect of a complex ecosystem and with local authority funding for arts in England plummeting by 48% over 14 years, venues are caught in a precarious balancing act between financial survival and cultural accessibility. His insight that "regional theatres are more than entertainment hubs; they are essential pillars of their communities" challenges us to look deeper. The narrative of "accessible pricing" begins to unravel when we look closer. If high-priced tickets subsidise cheaper seats, we must ask: Who are these "accessible" tickets really reaching? Are we creating "accessible" theatre, or just creating an illusion of access? As Robbie Kings' insightful article from about Pay What You Can pricing at Battersea Arts Centre showed, simply lowering prices doesn't automatically diversify audiences. It's a structural challenge that requires deeper engagement. In the midst of an ongoing cost-of-living crisis, hitting people's pockets, the pool of regular theatre-goers who can afford premium tickets inevitably shrinks. To ensure the future of theatre, we need more than pricing gymnastics - we need fundamental reimagining of how we connect with diverse audiences. The message is clear: Surviving isn't the same as thriving. Without growing audience volume, theatres won't just struggle - they'll cease to exist. https://lnkd.in/etYGThpR #Theatre #CulturalAccessibility #ArtsAndCulture #UKTheatre

Devon & Cornwall Create Growth Programme End of Programme Showcase Round-up: 1/3 Live Arts At last week's end of programme Showcase event for Devon & Cornwall Stage 1 businesses on the #CreateGrowthProgramme, we divided into three key sub-sector groups, where each business had two minutes to showcase their work. It was fast-paced, dynamic and brilliant! And sparked lots of exciting conversations ...💡 First up - Live Arts: A rich tapestry of music, dance and theatre, the South West arts scene shone at Showcase Day. Grounded in a sense of place, it was clear to see how local partnerships have played such an important role in each creative business’s growth. Whether it’s linking up with museums, wildlife trusts, local authorities, charities or private commercial venues, from co-producing to commissioning, these partnerships show the huge potential for creating stand-out live art performances. Collaboration across venues and audiences was another hot topic. Ideas were ignited for mixed arts events and even a mini regional tour across the region. Innovation event apps by @[Stagely Ltd](urn:li:organization:103573066) & @[Map Your Event](urn:li:organization:100097038) will make this all the more easier. Congratulations to the Live Arts Cluster across Devon & Cornwall: Documental, Owdyado, Cscape Dance Company, Troubadour Theatre, Scary Little Girls, Neville Connor (Ubuntu Educational & Mentoring Services), Unleashed Theatre Company, Dicky Souray (Groundswell), wonderzoo-arts, MIDI - Music in Devon Initiative, Filament, ACE Holds The Space™ PARTICIPATE ARTS CIC, Leonie Anderson (Barkham Exmoor CIC), STERTS ARTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CENTRE, Barbican Theatre Plymouth, SALT Projects Cornwall Ltd, Stagely Ltd, Lowender and The Resource Project.
