    The word alignment gets thrown around a lot (and we’re guilty of it too!). But a recent comment from Chris Baynham-Hughes challenged us to think deeper. When we talk about alignment, it can often be interpreted as “everyone needs to think the same way”—which can unintentionally narrow creativity and stifle innovation. That’s - not - how we see alignment. For us, alignment is closer to shared understanding. It’s about agreeing on the mission while giving people the freedom to explore their own solutions. True alignment is understanding where you stand, how your work fits into the bigger picture, and how your team can innovate within that framework. That’s where success happens.     A question from our community to our coaching team: “How do you measure success?” 🤔 1. Avoid Over-Reliance on Proxy Measures: Focusing too much on proxy metrics can lead teams to prioritise the measurement itself over the strategic goal it represents. 🔢 2. Use a Combination of Metrics: A mix of various, even imperfect, metrics can effectively signal progress and provide flexibility, reducing the need for one ‘perfect’ measure. 🎯 3. Ensure Measures Are Necessary and Sufficient: Group multiple relevant measures to collectively show progress, balancing comprehensiveness without overwhelming with excessive data. 💡 Our coaches have 50+ years of experience between them (although they don’t look it 👀) and can help with small questions, right up to large company shifts.     The hidden costs of misalignment between Sales and Customer Success Teams. 💸 Churn and Lost Revenue: When a customer churns due to unmet expectations, that’s money out the door. Worse, it’s not just a lost customer, it’s a missed opportunity for upsell, referrals, and brand advocacy. ⏳ Inefficient Processes: Misalignment creates inefficiencies. CS spends more time firefighting unhappy customers instead of being proactive about growing accounts or building relationships. Sales has to explain why customers aren’t sticking around, which eats into valuable selling time. 😡 Poor Employee Morale: Nothing is more demoralising for your teams than feeling like they’re working against each other. Sales feels like they’re not being supported post-sale, and CS feels blindsided by unrealistic customer expectations. This creates tension, frustration, and often turnover within teams.
