Our trainees have been heading out on travel training trips around Bristol, to get get comfortable using the bus independently and visit different places of work around the city. Visiting workplaces in person helps our trainees to learn about the different skills needed for different jobs, and start to decide what type of job they would like to have.

There are lots of benefits to having a job, which is why 65% of adults with learning disabilities stated they want to work*. Despite this, only 5% of adults with learning disabilities are employed*. The biggest barrier our trainees face to finding employment is the lack of accessible job opportunities. Step and Stone works closely with employers to navigate job carving and provide personalised job coaching, making the process of employing someone with a learning difference much simpler. Our work skills hub focuses on teaching our trainees a range of skills they can use in their careers and personal lives. The ability to manage stress at work and home is a brilliant skill to master, and we had some great conversations sharing our own techniques for managing stress. Do you have a work skill you could help teach our trainees? We are always open to working with corporate volunteers to deliver one-off training sessions at our Bristol-based bakery. Get in contact with us at welcome@stepandstone.co to find out more!

We are super excited about our new project, working with Multiply to deliver bespoke numeracy training to our trainees at Step and Stone. As bakers, our trainees frequently work with measurements and weights. Multiply will support our trainees to understand the Maths behind their everyday bakery activities, and work towards them being able to perform numeracy tasks as independently as possible. This valuable support will improve trainees’ skills in the bakery, at home and in their progression to paid employment. You can read more about Multiply’s first visit to Step and Stone bakery here: https://lnkd.in/eXVMAu3x

We are very proud to announce that we have recently been granted two Taste of the West Gold food awards, for our Poppy Seed Lavosh and our Walnut and Cheese Biscuits.
