🌱 A Fantastic Day at the Decarbonising Construction in Derby Event! 🚧 What an insightful and engaging morning at the Derby Museums of Making! With a packed room of construction supply chain, consultants and contractors we had great discussions, shared valuable insights, and made some fantastic new connections. Our Interim Sustainability Manager, Jennifer P., was delighted to present alongside industry leaders, helping businesses explore practical ways to reduce carbon impact and understand each others sustainability goals. A huge thank you to Derby City Council, SCAPE, Willmott Dixon, Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK), and Arc Partnership for hosting such an important event. We’re passionate about inspiring the next generation and giving back to our local communities. Over the past week, we have been engaging with young people across the North West, opening doors to careers in construction and beyond. 🔹 Careers Speed Networking Visited Maricourt Catholic High School and St Margaret’s CofE Academy, meeting over 200 students from Years 8-11, sharing industry insights, and helping young people explore career paths. These fantastic events were organised by Elevate Education Business Partnership, through STEM Learning UK. 🔹 Mock Interviews Worked with students at The Academy of St Nicholas, helping them develop essential employability skills and confidence for their future careers with Careers Lead, Caroline Swarbrick. 🔹 Collaborating for Greater Impact We had a productive meeting with Katheryn White from Liverpool City Region Careers Hub, discussing new ways to support local schools and colleges with construction careers information. #Stepnell #SocialValue #FutureTalent #CareersInConstruction #STEM #Education #CommunityEngagement #NorthWest

We’re proud to share that Mohamed Al Sahaf, Luke Walsh, and Ashleigh Wilson have been shortlisted for the G4C Midlands Awards 2024. 🏗 Mohamed Al Sahaf – Trainee of the Year Mo has made a real impact as a Trainee Site Manager, bringing enthusiasm, teamwork, and a proactive approach to sustainability. As a SmartWaste Champion, he’s driving positive change on-site while balancing his studies in Construction Site Management. 📊 Luke Walsh – Student of the Year Luke is an Assistant Estimator, balancing his role with a BSc in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. His attention to detail, leadership in tendering projects, and passion for mentoring make him a key part of the team. 🛠 Ashleigh Wilson – Mentor of the Year As a Senior Site Manager, Ash has supported and guided many colleagues, helping them develop their skills and confidence. His commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment makes him a great mentor and role model. A huge well done to all three – your hard work and dedication are truly valued. Construction is full steam ahead at New College Swindon! We're making great progress on the new link building, with the decking and steel work currently being installed in preparation for the roof slab. This exciting project will provide a secure entrance, modern reception area, offices, meeting spaces, and a covered walkway connecting two existing campus buildings. This month, our East Midlands Pre-Construction team recently took the opportunity to visit one of our live sites at Thoresby Vale in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, where progress is moving along to deliver a new forest school. This project is currently at the halfway point of the programme and has already achieved several key milestones. Together with Harworth Group plc Nottinghamshire County Council and Lungfish Architects, we are working hard to bring this vision to life, transforming the site of a former colliery into a thriving new community hub. The school will offer places for children from reception to year 6 and will sit at the heart of an exciting new development.
