The #Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya stands as a powerful reminder of what’s at stake when development aid is cut. For decades, Kakuma has been a fragile ecosystem, a place where food aid, healthcare programs, and education initiatives have helped thousands of displaced people rebuild their lives. Now, with the recent USAID cuts, a staggering 83% reduction, camps like Kakuma face an impossible challenge. Fewer resources mean children who once received nutritional support may go hungry. Malaria treatment, once critical for preventing outbreaks in crowded conditions, may now be out of reach. And the absence of these lifelines could tragically mean more lives lost. But what worries me most is the long-term impact. When support systems collapse, desperation rises and with it, the risk of exploitation, conflict, and instability. In places like Kakuma, stability is built on thin margins. The question is no longer just about aid, it’s about dignity, resilience, and hope. What steps can we take to ensure communities like Kakuma aren’t forgotten in this shifting landscape? #GlobalDevelopment #HumanitarianAid #RefugeeCrisis #usaid David Miliband Samantha Power Kenneth Roth Amnesty International Nick Kristof

Women and girls are the most vulnerable when war and conflict force people to flee. It is not because women are naturally less equipped to fend for themselves. However, because of their gender, they are at greater risk of abuse and oppression. Almost half of the girls and women who flee are exposed to some form of abuse. It involves, among other things, rape, kidnapping and bribery. And only half as many displaced girls compared to boys get an education. Despite the additional challenges that women and girls face, every day we meet countless of women, whose unique strength is evident. Women who have walked for days, carrying their children to safety, women who succeed in setting up their own business to provide for their families, women who support each other at safe spaces in camps and women who sew their own menstrual pads. As a part of our responsibility to protect the most vulnerable, we work tirelessly to improve the safety of women and girls fleeing and overcome barriers to education, and access opportunities. In some cases women become the sole breadwinner of a family, as their husbands have been killed, have disappeared or left to find safety for the family. In many countries these women faces additional challenges to secure an income and provide for their children. We work towards empowering these women to generate their own income through providing lessons in how to set up a small business, so they in a sustainable way are able to provide for their families. Happy International Women's Day 💪

I had the privilege of meeting Jean-Philippe Courtois at the World Economic Forum alongside Alain Dehaze. Reflecting on his incredible 40+ year journey at Microsoft, I'm struck by the profound wisdom embedded in his story. Many see corporate careers as limiting. I've learned that true leaders create exponential impact within established systems. Jean-Philippe Courtois journey from a young sales engineer to President of Microsoft Global Sales reveals timeless leadership principles I carry with me: 1. Earn the right to sell. Jean-Philippe learned early from Michel Lacombe that "you need to establish deep relationships and trust" before selling. This customer-first mentality beats product-pushing every time. 2. Take bold responsibility when young. At just 26, he was tasked with business development across multiple European countries. His willingness to embrace such responsibility accelerated his growth exponentially. 3. Balance global vision with local execution. He described how Microsoft subsidiaries initially operated almost independently—setting local prices, creating regional marketing campaigns, and even packaging software locally. 4. Invest religiously in people development. For 40+ years, Jean-Philippe dedicated 25-30% of his calendar to talent development, coaching, succession planning, and building leadership communities. 5. Seek curious leaders with dual excellence. He specifically looked for people with curiosity about both technology AND customer businesses, combined with excellence in execution AND people leadership. 6. Connect personal purpose to organizational mission. What stood out most was how he viewed Microsoft as "mission-led," where employees could "bring their small share of added value to the place where they live as citizens." 7. View leadership as a privilege to serve. His greatest pride wasn't his title or achievements, but "the privilege to work with amazing people" and to help develop hundreds of talents across 120 countries. As Microsoft now enters the generative AI era, Jean-Philippe's principles remain relevant—placing technology in service to humanity rather than the reverse. His 40-year journey reminds me that leadership isn't about rapid pivots or disruption for its own sake, but about patiently building mission-led organizations that can transform themselves while staying true to their core values. What leadership lesson from long-tenured executives has most impacted your approach to business?

✨Celebrating Microsoft 50th anniversary ✨ When I took the train to Paris in 1984 for a job interview at a little-known software startup called Microsoft, I could never have imagined the extraordinary journey ahead. From selling MS-DOS and BASIC to witnessing Windows 95 redefine the world, and later guiding our global transformation under Satya Nadella — every moment has shaped who I am today. Alongside exceptional colleagues and wonderful customers across 120+ countries, I've learned the power of truly global, purpose-led leadership, deeply rooted in curiosity, trust, and constant learning. Microsoft taught me to always connect your personal "why" with the mission of the company, empowering every person to achieve more. Reflecting on this journey in my latest interview with the Microsoft Alumni Network was deeply humbling and inspiring. 🎥 Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/eyAZn_Qp Watch also my former colleagues and friends videos : Orlando Ayala, Sanjay Parthasarathy and of course Steve Ballmer. Your observations on India's progress are inspiring, Bill Gates. What stands out is how India perfectly balances human ingenuity with technological advancement. The most effective solutions aren't purely AI-driven or human-driven - they're collaborative. India demonstrates that technology works best when it enhances human potential rather than replacing it. The next frontier isn't just building better AI - it's designing better human-AI partnerships that solve real problems at scale. We believe AI delivers outputs, but Human + AI delivers outcomes. That's where true transformation happens at StepUp.One
In a few days, I’ll be traveling to India—my third visit in three years. Every time I go, I’m inspired by the bold ideas and ambitious efforts underway to improve health, agriculture, and technology. India has already achieved incredible progress: eliminating polio, expanding childhood vaccinations, improving sanitation for millions, and strengthening agriculture to support smallholder farmers. Now, the country is tackling its biggest health and development challenges with AI-driven diagnostics, digital public infrastructure, and innovative approaches to tuberculosis elimination. Through our partnership with the government and local innovators, the Gates Foundation has had the opportunity to support many of these efforts. This trip is a chance to see what’s working, what’s changing, and what’s next.

Publishing both wins and losses isn’t something I’ve avoided—it’s just something most people don’t do. We celebrate success but keep failures in the shadows. So, I’m committing to sharing both—the breakthroughs and the breakdowns. Not for the sake of transparency, but because reflection sharpens decision-making, and learning in the open makes us all better. What’s a failure that taught you something you still carry today?
Everyone #fails. Anyone you see succeeding is only succeeding at the things you're paying attention to--I guarantee they are also failing at lots of other things. #raydalio #principles #success #lifeadvice #mentor

Five years from now, we might look back at ATLANT 3D’s DALP® technology as the turning point in atomic-scale manufacturing—the moment we stopped designing within constraints and started engineering at the atomic level. Semiconductors, quantum computing, and aerospace are all defined by a simple truth: precision drives progress. The ability to build materials atom by atom isn’t just an incremental improvement; it’s a fundamental shift in how we create. Faster prototyping, minimal waste, and previously impossible designs becoming standard—this is what happens when manufacturing catches up with imagination. Are we entering an era where the line between what we imagine and what we manufacture disappears?
