Innovative engineering for trenchless renovation and decommissioning of pipes worldwide
About us
Steve Vick International was founded in 1981 by the current chairman, Steve Vick, who saw an opportunity to develop ways of safely sealing off gas mains and services using expanding foam technology under ‘no gas’ conditions. Since its foundation the company has been at the forefront in developing and manufacturing products and techniques for the trenchless repair, renovation and decommissioning of pipes. Many of our products and services are fully transferable to the water industry and nuclear decommissioning sector. In addition a vital division of our company is our Contract Services; whereby a team of qualified technicians can be commissioned to carry out specialist operations in the UK and abroad.

🚧 This week, our Technical Support team had the pleasure of working onsite with envolve infrastructure in Winterbourne, Bristol, where they trialed our new Coil Control with our 180 Pipe Coil Trailer 🚧 envolve infrastructure, working in partnership with Wessex Water, delivered an essential sewer relief project involving directional drilling and the installation of 160mm sewage pipe under a river, aiming to mitigate the risk of environmental contamination. Using our Coil Control, the team attached a towing head to the leading end of the pipe coil, seamlessly pulling the pipe through using the directional drill. Coil Control offers a significant leap in the safe and efficient installation of coiled HDPE pipes. By automatically neutralising the stored kinetic energy in coiled pipes, it addresses a long-standing safety concern in the industry. One of its unique benefits is the ability to partially uncoil, allowing operators to use only the necessary pipe for each job while conserving the rest—a practice that not only improves flexibility but also reduces material waste. Designed to work with the full range of Steve Vick International trailers—including our 180 Pipe Coil Trailer, Hexi Trailer, and 125/160 Pipe Coil Trailer—Coil Control ensures compatibility and adaptability across projects. Plus, its on-site installation is quick and adjustable, with hydraulic pressure settings that allow customisation based on specific conditions, pipe diameter, and SDR requirements. We're delighted to see Coil Control's advantages in action and look forward to its continued impact on projects like this one. #CoilControl #OperatorSafety #Sewerrelief #waterprojects Dean Morgan Shelley Butler

What a wonderful evening we had at The Pipeline Industries Guild 59th Northern Branch Dinner last night, held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. A huge thanks to the The Pipeline Industries Guild for hosting such a memorable event, with special thanks to Zara Pucci and Kate Byfield for bringing it all together. The evening was made even more special by the company of our dinner guests – it was a pleasure sharing the night with you all. A highlight of the evening was meeting the inspiring Johnny Nelson MBE, former professional boxer. Hearing him share his journey from local fighter to world champion was highly motivating, as he spoke passionately about resilience, determination, and self-belief. Here's to next year’s dinner! 🥂 #PipelineIndustriesGuild #NorthernBranchDinner Shelley Butler Andy Hutchison Caspar Vick Keith Thompson Natasha Wilkes Georgina Easterling Phillip Crow Peter Maughan Phil Carmichael

Last week, our Contract Services team worked alongside Balfour Beatty plc on an important HS2 project in Coleshill, Birmingham, where the Water Orton Viaducts will soon connect over 700 metres of HS2 track across the River Tame. This essential infrastructure, east of the M42 and Lichfield Road, will bridge existing transport networks, including the Birmingham-Peterborough line between Water Orton and Coleshill Parkway Stations. Our Contract Services team grout filled 130 meters of 315mm and 180mm decommissioned gas mains beneath the viaduct site. Given the depth of these mains, grout filling was chosen as the most effective solution to stabilise the ground and prevent surface slump, creating a safe and solid foundation for the viaducts above. Grouting is a technique our Contract Services team often use to remotely decommission abandoned underground pipes and voids. By filling these voids, we ensure ground stability, prevent water infiltration, and maintain structural integrity—all crucial steps in preparing the land for new developments. We’re proud to play a part in supporting projects that shape our future infrastructure safely and responsibly. #Infrastructure #Construction #HS2 #GroundStabilisation Mike Hall Natasha Wilkes

Last week, our Technical Support team had the pleasure of spending a day training the team at envolve infrastructure on our N600 Keel Cutter. This training will support their important work on water projects for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water. Our Keel Cutters offer a safe and efficient way to cut and bevel ductile water pipes by automatically tracking around the main, reducing the risks associated with traditional methods like handheld grinders and saws. One of the standout features of the N600 model is its ability to cut and bevel ductile iron pipes up to 1600mm in diameter when paired with a guide ring. With a cutting speed of approximately 100mm per minute, it enhances both accuracy and efficiency, ultimately saving time and costs. Plus, it requires minimal clearance of just 200mm to 250mm around the pipe, allowing for smaller excavations. Our Keel Cutters are versatile and designed to handle various materials, including steel, cast iron, asbestos, cement, and plastic. They’re just one part of our wide range of pipe cutting and cracking solutions tailored for the utilities industry. A huge thank you to envolve infrastructure for their engagement and enthusiasm during the training. We’re excited to support your projects and can’t wait to see the N600 in action. 💧✨ #Training #TechnicalSupport #KeelCutter #WaterProjects #UtilitiesIndustry James Hall

Since SVI introduced the Foam Bag Operation on Stubs (FBOS) in October 2020, it has become the ultimate solution for tackling the most complex mains decommissioning challenges. FBOS ensures full decommissioning of old metallic mains right up to the final transition joint, preventing future leaks while optimising time and resources. FBOS is the ideal method for decommissioning technically difficult mains, including stranded, one-way fed, and stub mains, as well as those encountered in mains replacement schemes. It effectively handles mains ranging from 4" to 8" in diameter—sections that are often difficult to excavate due to their sensitive or congested locations. With a significant amount of 8" gas mains replacement still ahead, we were thrilled to receive approval last year from both Cadent Gas Limited and Northern Gas Networks. This technique is perfect for decommissioning challenging mains, and with so many 8" sections still in need of attention, FBOS could be the solution you’re looking for. With an impressive 1,345 operations completed, here’s why FBOS stands out: ✔ Remote live mains insertion for single- or two-way fed mains ✔ Insertion lengths of up to 25 meters ✔ Specially developed nosecone for navigating existing services and plugs ✔ Signature sealant technology that eliminates rust and contaminants ✔ Suitable for mains ranging from 4" to 8" FBOS is available through our Contract Services team.
