Helping local people face incurable illness and bereavement

About us

We help local people face incurable illness, supporting them and their families, friends and carers. We also support children and adults who are facing bereavement. We reach out to members of our community, helping them make their own choices and live with dignity. By focusing on their physical, emotional and spiritual needs, we aim to bring comfort and relief to all those who need it, offering the people of North Essex individual care and total support, regardless of their diagnosis or personal circumstances. We rely heavily on the help and generosity of our fundraisers, donors and volunteers. Without them we wouldn’t be here. We all share a common goal: to be here every step of the way for everyone who needs us, helping life to go on in the face of dying, death and bereavement. By visiting them in their homes, over the phone with our 24/7 advice line, through our day therapies, and at The Hospice, through all the smiles and all the tears we guide those who need us, because we believe in making every memory matter. Could you donate your time and skills to St Helena? 📣 "I am just really very happy to be able to help. Certainly, what I have learned in my brief time here is you've got the Hospice itself, which is the tip of the iceberg, but there is so much going on below, whether it's gardening, whether it's maintenance; there's a myriad of things. I mean I'm not terribly skilled by any stretch of imagination, as you can tell when I hack away at brambles, but I think there probably is a place for just about everybody here in some facet or another to be able to help." We are looking for a number of roles including: Gardeners, Creation Station session assistant, retail assistants and Look Good, Feel Better workshop volunteer. Help local people in your community today! https://lnkd.in/ehgQwMqd 🧡

"The kitchen staff are lovely. The food is tremendous. I remember waking up one morning and I was talking to the woman in the opposite bed and I said oh what shall we have for breakfast this morning? Cornflakes, Weetabix, what shall we have? Bacon sandwiches? I tell you what, I really fancy a pancake. And they made us both pancakes, completely off the menu, but nothing was too much trouble and we had beautiful pancakes." 🧡

This week from 7th - 13th October is #HospiceCareWeek 🧡 Hospices across the UK are facing unprecedented financial pressure, and St Helena is no exception. The modest amounts of funding hospices receive from the government is forcing many hospices to scale back vital services, leaving them in impossible positions. At St Helena, we are striving to not scale back care. We are innovating, adapting, and developing new revenue streams to bridge the funding gap. This includes our commercial cleaning company, Total Clean; private home care business, Radfield Home Care; and creative activities company, Creation Station – all in support of St Helena – which are key to securing the future of our patient care. Did you know about our SinglePoint service? 📞 "No matter what problem I had, I phoned SinglePoint. Middle of the night? It didn't matter, they were there, even if I just wanted to chat. If we didn't have that what would people do? It would be awful because I couldn't have got through those four months. St Helena wasn't just supporting Roger, they were supporting me" SinglePoint supports patients and families in the community, providing advice over the phone and care in the home 🧡 Learn more about SinglePoint 👉 https://lnkd.in/ezMvxrEt #HospiceCareWeek

During #HospiceCareWeek we celebrate hospice care and the incredible work our staff and volunteers do every day to make sure local people in our community can benefit from the very best end of life care and their families are supported 🧡 For many people, talking to the people around them can help manage grief. However, some people may find they benefit from support from someone not closely involved in their life. Our Forget Me Not bereavement service offers bereavement counselling to adults across north east Essex who are struggling to cope with their grief. At St Helena we're supporting more people than ever before in our community, but our income is currently not enough to meet the needs of the people that we care for 💙 By utilising our expertise to offer private, fee-based bereavement services, we can generate the necessary income to continue providing essential care to those facing dying, death and bereavement in our community. To find out more about our Forget Me Not bereavement service, visit https://lnkd.in/ehvwJAUp Support us this #HospiceCareWeek by liking and sharing our posts!

It's #HospiceCareWeek and we're showcasing some of the amazing services we provide 🧡 ⭐ Remember to support us this Hospice Care Week by liking and sharing our posts ⭐ At St Helena we’ve launched a new paid-for Respite Service, offering temporary stays at the Hospice. This not only supports local carers but addresses a critical gap in respite and short-term care options for those in the final phase of life or with complex needs. We provide a safe space for patients where care is available round-the-clock, so they will receive all their normal nursing care requirements and symptom control. Our patients have access to our full range of services including social and emotional support, spirituality care, complementary therapy and rehab.
