We work with local organizations to ensure children around the world are safe, in school and learning.

About us

Street Child works to see all children kept safe, in school and learning—especially in low resource environments and emergencies. Our vision is a world where it is seen as unacceptable for a child not to be in education. But today there are 250 million school-aged children around the world who are not in education. Millions more children are in school but failing to learn. Street Child believes that education is a fundamental right and achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step toward eliminating the inequality gap and global poverty. We go to places where others don’t go, where we seek out remote, hard-to-reach, fragile and disaster-affected states that are forgotten about and ignored. It’s in these contexts where our pragmatic and cost-effective approaches can make a real difference to a child’s future. Street Child works to remove the complex social, economic and structural barriers to education wherever they lie. We are there to close the gaps through which the most marginalised children can slip. Our work includes not only building schools and training teachers but also protecting children and livelihood support for caregivers to ensure they can afford the cost of their children’s education. Wherever we work, we partner with local organisations and communities which allows us to be responsive and nimble. We use simple, low-cost and replicable solutions that allow us to create maximum impact for the most children. We started out supporting 100 street-connected children in Sierra Leone in 2008. Since then, we have impacted one million marginalised children in over 25 countries around the world.

The climate crisis can feel overwhelming for many, so we’re focusing on how communities around the world are working to make a difference. 🌱 In the Democratic Republic of Congo, our team has launched a ‘greening project’ to educate children and create green spaces around the school. In over 20 schools across the country, children are being provided with seeds and learning how to plant trees. Not only does this foster an appreciation of the environment, income-generating activities such as community forestry or selling produce from these crops will support the community! Yesterday we attended Liberty Global’s SustainED session with Street Child! It was a fantastic event, highlighting the history of Liberty Global and Street Child’s partnership. The panel discussed how vital unrestricted funding, provided through corporate partnerships such as this, allows Street Child to fill funding gaps. We are looking forward to our upcoming hackathon, working with Liberty Global’s tech expertise to explore how technology can support more children. Keep an eye out on our channels for more information. 👀 Thank you once again Liberty Global for their ongoing support. Take a moment to find out more about how football can be used to support children in crisis-affected areas. ⚽ In Ukraine, Street Child, in collaboration with our local partners, has established weekly football sessions for 60 children affected by the war. Eleven-year-old Oleksiy and his family fled Kharkiv, living in a shelter for ten days while bombs dropped overhead.* Now, he joins the football match every Sunday to play with his friends. “I think about what happened in Kharkiv a lot,” Oleksiy says, “But when I’m playing football, I forget.” To find out more, head to our website and read more about Street Child’s programme in Ukraine. https://lnkd.in/eBBTrUuk *name changed for safeguarding purposes

Meet Binu from Nepal…* 🇳🇵 At 7 years old, Binu has the responsibility of caring for her family. With her father remarried and her mother working as a migrant labourer, Binu looks after her grandmother and manages the household. These responsibilities prevent her from focusing on her education. Through Street Child’s Build the Basics programme in Nepal, Binu’s teacher conducted an assessment to pinpoint the lessons she missed. He found that while Binu excelled in literacy, she was struggling with maths. By introducing engaging and fun number games, her math skills have improved, and she now loves learning! Your support helps more children like Binu receive the education they deserve. 🧡📚 #EducationMatters *Name changed for safeguarding purposes
