We are horrified by the violence targeting people of colour, Muslims, and those seeking asylum across the UK. Racist, Islamophobic, and anti-migrant hatred have no place in this country. Everyone deserves to live their lives in safety, yet many are now living in fear. We stand in solidarity with everyone affected, many of whom have already fled violence and persecution. This violence is a direct result of years of normalised racism, Islamophobia and the scapegoating of people seeking asylum, by politicians and the media. Change is urgently needed. Alongside many other organizations, we call on the government to recall parliament and take immediate action. We know that most people are just as horrified by these events, and communities have united to protect their neighbors and clean up the aftermath. There are far more of us than those who spread hate. Together we can call out racism and bigotry when we see it. Together we can look out for our neighbours and stand against hate.

We are proud to join 300 orgs & 500+ people in calling on the new Prime Minister to urgently overhaul our broken asylum system. We need a new approach: one that protects people seeking safety, rather than punishing them for political gain: https://lnkd.in/egyHhEFK #CommunitiesNotCamps

If you’re able to vote in the election today, here’s what you need to know: 1) Find your polling card or check where you’re voting: Your polling card will tell you where you can vote on Thursday or you can check online (link in our bio). 2) Remember to take a valid photo ID: this includes a UK, NI or EU driving license, passport, a PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme) and Voter ID certificate . 3) Go and vote: Unless you have registered for a postal or proxy vote you will need to vote in person at a polling station. Polling stations are open from 7am-10pm on Thursday 4th July. If you have an emergency and aren’t able to vote in person you may be eligible for an emergency proxy vote, where someone else votes on your behalf - link in our bio for more info. 4) Remind others to vote too: Speak to friends and family and remind them to vote on the day! #RefugeesWelcome #StopRwanda #ElectionDayUK #UKPolitics #YourVoteMatters

We want to share with you what STAR has been up to this year, from the small team at our national office to our amazing student network across the country.
